  1. Thanks alot for sharing your opinion, I'm a junior now but yeah, I know it's really early. I just wanted to get that question out of the way so I can stop worrying about if I am going to have to go to a much more expensive school than I am planning on just so I can get noticed when I apply to a position.
  2. So I have been thinking a lot about what Nurse Anesthesia program I want to go into and I want to hear from nurses what their opinions on these schools are. I am just wondering if going to a more maybe "prestigious" school like Duke opposed to a not as popular school like USF will actually make such a huge deal as it seems it will. Assuming they both teach me the exact same things and provide me with the best environment for learning and passing exams etc., once I get out in the real world will any potential employer actually care what the name of my CRNA school was? By the way USF is not too far from home and my top choice because of the awesome health care centers in the Tampa Bay area. I am just thinking about Duke because I have heard great things about their program and the environment is amazing in my opinion. Thank you in advance for your advice!
  3. Thank you all, I know I have a long way to go, but I just like having a plan for my future set out so that I can live without worrying about what to do with my life, and thanks to nursing I have found that :)
  4. Hi, I'm a sophomore in High School excited to work my way up to becoming a CRNA. I have done lots of research and talking about it for the last 6 months and I have a pretty nice plan worked out, but I need some help from some of you wise nurses. Basically, I have this great "Florida 2+2 Prepaid" thing that covers 2 years of tuition at IRSC (local small college) then 2 years at any other public FL university. What I am planning on doing is getting my RN at IRSC then transferring to USF for its RN-BSN program. I understand that most people work during these programs, but here is where I have questions. 1. Can I work full time or does it have to be part time? 2. Will I be able to save enough money in those two years to pay for a large portion of my CRNA schooling? 3. As 2 years of ICU experience is preferable for CRNA school, would I be able to knock out this requirement while in my RN-BSN program? I understand that if the answer to 3 is no, I may need to work for another year or two. I also understand how important experience in the ICU is, and that the requirement is there for a good reason. If I do not feel ready to administer anesthesia by the end of my second year in the ICU, I will keep working until I know I am. (So don't worry that I am rushing, I am just trying to be as time/cost effective as possible.) Thank you very much in advance to all of those who reply! :)
  5. Thanks very much for your input applesxoranges, I would just like to clarify what I meant by pre-nursing. My high school has a HOSA program that in my senior year, will be a CNA course. This will get me very well prepared to go to nursing school because we will spend lots of time in local nursing homes getting hands on clinical experience, which is invaluable for my education.
  6. My scholarship pays for tuition of two years at my community college and two years at any other FL public university. So to best utilize this, i will knock out all of my nursing prerequisites and any classes i can take that will help with my CRNA studies in the future, get my rn at my community college, and then transfer to another college (currently strongly leaning towards USF, any grads of their program have any thoughts on it?) to get my bsn (I understand these programs are optimized for actively working RNs, which would be perfect for me since I will definitely need the money.)
  7. Well I will be going to a "community" college, so I guess I am in the clear. I am just going to focus on the health sciences and take a very basic math course at my local college so I don't have to suffer through any more of this horrid calculus. Thanks very much to all of you :)
  8. I plan on going where I can get the best training possible. I will get my RN at Indian River State College and then do the RN-BSN program at either USF or FAU. Since I will be working during those two years, i will have saved quite a bit of money (i have a great scholarship on account of my mother being single) and I am thinking about applying to Duke for their Nurse Anesthesia program. I just don't know if i could get in with a fail on my record.
  9. Hi, I'm Jack, a sixteen year old high school sophomore. I am in my school's pre-nursing program and I am excited to get to work as a nurse and later become a CRNA. Unfortunately, I am currently in the most challenging course I have ever taken. Pre-calc. I have not gotten higher than a 50% on any tests in this semester, and it seems I am doomed to fail because the ideas just do not work in my head. But my question is not how to pass this class because that is up to me. I am wondering if I will be able to go to my local college's nursing program at all if I have a big fat F on my transcript. And even if I do make it through that, will any CRNA programs even consider me? Please help, it will be greatly appreciated. :) P.S. The rest of my grades are all A's and one B, for reference.
