I work out 4-5 times a week, and it bothers me that most of my co workers are severely obese, and are constantly eating. I'm to busy with work to be sitting down eating all day, how do some nurses balloon to such a size? If I were a patient I wouldn't want some obese nurse telling me how to control my diet, and bad smoking habits? My job offers a gym on campus"free", but it's rarely used. So I don't understand. Is this a common issue nation wide?

Thank you, finally someone who sees what I've been saying. You RN's have become too "great and elite" to now dismiss us as LPNs as a real professions.

Obama will make LPNs the standard of nursing, and they will bump NP's up into the role of physicians and take over. RN will have 2 options go back to school and get a NP or work with LPNs doing the same thing making what we make now. Only way to solve this health care debate. Only Fair way to do this. We have to save these pts, while maintaining affordable care. That option solves it.

I change wet diapers, you change pooped diapers along with me. I hang IV meds which I have Calculated the drip rate and all, and all you do is pretend to double check my work, and sign off on it. Oh the physical exam, not really hard to listen to wheezing, rales, arrhythmias, a good skin check for ulcers, those are all things I do along side the RNs. Obama will figure this out, and phase RNs out since LPNs are cheaper, and then have NP's phase doctors because that's cheaper. That's how you solve healthcare in America.

You stated more education makes you better than me and must know more than me, so how can you say you chased doctors in July and stated you have more knowledge than them. Because you don't according to your own statement of more education equals greater critical thinking kills. And from what we know MD have more years of training. And that's a fact.

Can I tell you about the time when the RN who had recently graduated asked me "hey this PTs BUN is really Low, should I call the doctor to see if he wants to give the pt more BUN. I don't know what they are teaching the new generation of nurses, but we don't hand out BUN's to pts when the lab Value comes back as low.

You're real bright, the future looks good for you. The nurse mentioned a pt who was HYPOkalemic, less than 3.5. And Mr. Steven Hawkins, who ever you may be, you should know giving insulin drives K+ back into the cells worsening their HYPOkalemic state. Insulin activates the Sodium/K ATPase pump on the cells outer membrane. Which is why Mr. Steven Hawkings, the principles to why we should anticipate on giving a hyperkalemic patient especially in DKA more K+ once the insulin drip is started K+ levels will plummet. Because, pts are depleted of K+ intracellularly where most of it resides and will be shifted during acidosis through a Hydrogen/K+ exchange pump on the cell membrane which will mobilize K+ ions to the outside and take in more Hydrogen ions to try to balance the PH. Thus, leading a severe HYPOkalemia which leads to really bad arrhythmias which will lead to Death. Way to go Mr Hawkings, you killed your first virtual patient. Read Wiki once in a while. It does save lives. And like I said I work on a step down ICU unit, so don't try to Belittle me.

Isn't that what NP's use when we back them against physicians? That their training as nurses with extensive experience adds up to be on par with their training? That makes the case for LPNs as well. A lot of condescending statements here in regards to LPNs and our training. You guys are starting to sound like physicians when they bash RN's, and now you guys are bashing LPNs. You guys should know that nurses should stick together. But, seems like you go on and get another year of education, and now you're some sort of elite. I get it. Thanks.

Can you please link a study that compared LPNs vs RNs? They don't exist. So how can you make that claim? Second, you can claim NP and Physicians should get the same reimbursement for doing the same thing. Thank you, you made my point. You can't have it both ways. Using research on NPs on "mortality" is a bit extreme when a physician is always on hand just in case something happens out of their control, decreasing mortality. How does referring one to a physician, or having one look over them count? I'm sure LPNs have low mortality rates, we also have physicians we can call when things go out of control. Please find me a LPN study.

I guess we can agree to disagree. You here that same statement "I didn't know what I didn't know" from NP's who went on to medical school. Even though when asked, they will say they do the same thing but we are restricted by physicians. Yet, we back them in support, but yet we "LPNs" have almost the same scope of practice, but limited by the government. Does that government limitation placed on NP's by doctors lobbying government not parallel this same debate? This LPN restriction to me has that same sentiment. I don't know what else to say, but I just can't agree.

Did you read the whole thread before you judge. NP's argue and state they should be paid equally with physicians, so why can't I Make a valid point as an LPN to be paid as much as an RN's since we do the same work except "yes you do nave more education, but so do physicians"with some limitations placed on us by governments. Please enlighten me on how you support one (NPs) but can find it reasonable to consider or support (LPNs) should be paid almost what RNs make . No one has yet to answer, but some have made valid points.

No they basically want me to take the retirement plan or work on the long term care facility. That's not fair, and not fun. I will further lose money by down grading my self to long term. I'm to told for school, and honestly feel I can handle the changes and make the same money. I can't be down graded because I new grad with the same skill set as me wants my job. It's not fair.

I feel the effects truth me, being pressured to retire or quit. And I won't. Seeing how NPs will be running things soon, and every RN want to be a NP, that should open the market back for us to fill those gaps. As nurses eventually becomes docs in a sense, they'll need a nurse who can do that nursing stuff for them. Hope we move up together equally.

It's so hard with this house and car. I can't afford it. If I were young maybe. But, I will hold on to my unit making money and leaning. You think it's really that worth it? How can I live, work for a year to get this degree.

I make less than brand new minted nurse with a associates degree fresh out of college, barely old enough to drink, with 0 experience. But I guess it depends where your from. If you don't mind me asking but how much? It's 30% less here on average.

Don't you feel like RN's look down upon us? Some have even said from reading these forums that we are not even considered "real nurses." Makes me sad, first time on this forum and I didn't know thats what they thought of LPNs

Is their any other LPNs on here who would be will to advocate with me? I am planning on writing a letter to NFLPN on creating schools with more training to makes us more complete as nurses? If anyone on here is interested please send me a message or respond on here so I can get you more details on the matter. We need stick together as LPNs, we are being restricted and eliminated from using our skills learned during our training. I am really upset, they are slowly trying to move me out of the Intermediate care unit because they want to make it all RN based. Thankfully I am in a union, but I am feeling pressured by nurses on the floor who are constantly annoyed that I have to track them down to witness me do things, and sign off on things I did for them. They are doing away with us, and keeping us in longterm care facilities which is not what we signed up for. Anyone on here willing to help, please, we need more voices to speak up on our behalf. We can't all afford to go back to get our associates with kids, family, and work balance.
