Thanks again for your response and advice, cdscmb. It's a great idea to email the chief/principal investigator of the project to introduce myself. It also works in my setting. I didn't have to look for a job after my PhD only because everyone in the field seemed to know one another. Everything just came automatically. I guess I have to work very hard to find a job in NY regardless my background. Thanks again.

Hi cdscmb Thank you very much for your response. I am very open-minded as long as I can find a job either in NYC or somewhere near NYC (probably with one hour driving distance). I am happy to work as a research nurse/fellow in clinical settings or junior teaching staff/post doc in academic settings. I have tried to apply for research positions around NYC hospitals since two months ago, but I have not got any response so far. I guess it might be because I do not have a nursing license for NY state. Also most hospitals may not want to sponsor a work visa for nursing research positions. At the moment, I am in NYC with my electronic travel authorisation. But if I want to stay and work here, I have to find a working visa sponsor. I have also tried junior teaching/research faculty positions at a couple of nursing colleges in NYC. Unfortunately, they couldn't match my background with their current teaching and research priorities. I guess my hands are a bit tight right now. So I would really appreciate if any one could give me a heads up.

Hello ToughingItOut I have just registered at allnurses.com and read your post. I have a PhD degree in nursing from the University of Melbourne in Australia, and I have been involved in clinical research since 2012 after my PhD graduation. I have published eight first-author and two co-author journal articles. I am also a honorary research fellow at the university with some teaching experience. Sometimes I work as a floor nurse specialising in emergency care. I am planning to move to New York State for family reasons, and I am very interested in job opportunities in research or junior faculty positions. I do not have a nursing license for New York State yet, but I have applied for CGFNS credential verification service which will assess my eligibility. I would really appreciate any advice and comments from you.
