  1. I work in a 12 room OR and we have one smoke evacuator used only for GYN condoloma surgeries. I believe the AORN standard is for smoke evacuators to be used for every surgery using the bovie. Does anyone know if it is required in southern california to have smoke evacuators in the OR?
  2. My hospital in San Diego, CA is pushing for NO more than 30 minutes in between cases. The time begins when you leave the OR with your patient and you must be back in the OR with your next patient within 30 minutes. So you have to take the patient to recovery, set up your room for the next case, preop the next patient all within 30 minutes. I don't understand this push for time since mistakes happen when you are rushed. Are other hospitals doing this 30 minute turnover push and if so why?
  3. Yes, I had a terrible experience with bullying. I work in an OR with 12 rooms, doing 60-80 surgeries a day. There is a "click" that is friends with the manager. During my orientation, I was precepted by the "bully click". I almost didn't make it through my orientation because I was bullied, talked about, given bad reviews and offered no help in learning the job. I made it through orientation and since then after many people complaining about the bullies and a new OR director the bullying is being addressed. Not a good start to a new job. I hope this helps.
