had my interview this week too :) will update as things progress

to be honest, i didn't really study for reading that much. it's kind of hard to study for... because every passage is different and they will ask you different questions about the passage... so you just have to try and do a lot of problems to practice extracting main ideas and all that. for grammar, like i said in my previous comment, i used a lot of practice questions from hesiprep.org. make sure you really understand all of the ideas covered in the HESI elsevier book... if youre unsure, google for grammar help. look online for grammar practice questions on topics youre shaky on. grammar is tricky because a sentence may SOUND right, when it may not actually be grammatically correct (because we don't always speak with perfect grammar). But if you practice and pick out which are common traps that people may fall into, you will easily score well on this section. some main points i focused on were: when to use farther vs further when to use number vs amount when to use between vs among misplaced modifiers how to properly use semicolons lay, laid, laying vs lie, lain, laying- for this i just think, if you can replace the word with "place/placed/placing" you can use "lay/laid/laying". for example: i am laying the book down- i am placing the book down. whereas, i am lying on the sofa--- does not make sense if you say 'i am placing on the sofa' "neither/nor" and "either/or"- when using this, the verb must agree with the subject CLOSEST to it. for example: neither the cat nor the dog LIKES (not like) the rain. Even though you are talking about both cat and dog, the verb is singular bc you want to agree only with the subject closest to it. subject verb agreement when to use fewer vs less- eg: fewer students, less work these are just some things you should focus on... plus more... hope this helps!

jlabas, I studied chapters 1-4 in the elsevier book forwards and backwards! As long as you are confident about everything in that book (ch1-4), you will be well-prepared. After studying the book, I purchased about 10 practice exams from hesiprep.com and practiced doing all of the problems timed (I gave myself 1 hour for each section). This not only helps you get the practice in for solving problems you will see on the HESI, but it also helps you to boost your speed. (4 hours is plenty of time to take this exam, in my opinion... but if time management is an issue for you, this is a must!) This website was good practice especially for math and grammar. I have to mention some CONS for using this website as a study tool.... 1- there are some errors... so you have to be careful. 2- most of the vocab doesn't really reflect vocab you will see on the HESI (study the words in the elsevier book and try quizlet for hesi A2 vocab material, it will be good enough). 3- SOME of math problems go beyond the scope of what you are expected to know for HESI, so if a problem seems too far-fetched, just skip it. Other than than, I made flashcards for the vocabulary words in the book... I made sure I MEMORIZED the conversions for measurements (that table at the end of the math section in chapter 1). Once you memorized it, you can write it down on your scrap paper as soon as you sit down for the test so you can just refer back to it during the test (that's what I did). Also a tip during the exam: be CAREFUL with the numbers you put in the calculator and DOUBLE CHECK what the question is REALLY asking!! Do not rush because it's so easy to make a mistake on a simple addition problem because you punched in the wrong numbers in the calculator The hesiprep.com website really helps with grammar (despite a few errors here and there) because we are so used to speaking a certain way.... that we sometimes forget (or never really learned properly) correct grammar usage. Once you go through 5-6 practice exams, you start to see the pattern of which questions you are most likely to get tripped up with... Even though hesiprep has mistakes, it's a good tool for you to get the practice you need because the elsevier book only gives you a limited number of questions to practice with... and practice makes perfect!!! Also... if, for example, you are confused about when to use lie or lay or laid or lied... google it! you'll eventually find a website that will explain it to you in such a way that will really stick with you. If you put in the time and effort to study really hard for this test, you will get the score you deserve. Best of luck! I'm always here to help if you need any more advice

Thanks queenbeekimmy. I took the HESI A2 test, and I only took the Math, Reading, Vocab, and Grammar. & thank you djstormin! I finally spoke to my admissions rep and I was told I got a 100% on math and 94% on english! YAY! Still cant see my scores on the website though

WOW, it's been over 48 hours now!! Haha, I check every five minutes. It's so frustrating... The admissions director DID say she would call me on monday about my scores even though I'd probably receive an email about it earlier.... but I didn't think I'd have to wait so long your words have at least helped me feel a little better, so thanks! :) I'm applying to St. Paul's school of nursing on Staten Island. How about you? Howd you do on the hesi?

Adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing? or changing from fractions to decimals? Adding & subtracting.... this youtube video might help Multiplying.... you just multiply straight across (numerator * numerator, and denominator * denominator), then simplify if needed Dividing.... you just flip the second fraction (denominator becomes numerator, and vice versa) and follow the same rules as multiplication changing fractions to decimals is easy. just enter it into the calculator as is. if it's 29/55, just press 29, then division sign, then 55 and you'll get the decimal answer 0.527.... hope this helps?

For me, there was quite a bit of word problems... I'd say like about ~25% were word problems. But they're not so bad if you take the time to break down what they're really asking... sometimes it's really just as easy as subtraction/addition!

I'm more comfortable with math compared to reading, vocab, and grammar, so I would like to help! Like Dreaminofneedles said, if you specify what aspects/topics of the math sections trouble you the most, I think I can give you some tips.... Not sure if I'm fully qualified though, since my scores haven't been posted yet >.

Hello all (my first post ) I took my test on Friday, and after looking through threads on this site, I thought I would receive my score right away... But I didn't! Each section just said "completed". On the elsevier website, it says my scores will be posted within 24-48 hours... But it's already been like 30 hours and still nothing. I'm so anxious I hope I passed Has as this happened to anyone else? If so, how long did it take for you to see your score online?

Hi i just have one more question if you can help me out i'd really appreciate it. I'm studying right now and I'm wondering... for grammar, did you see a lot of questions like "what is the predicate, subject, object, preposition, etc" or was it mostly sentences that you had to fix to make it grammatically correct?
