  1. Hi everyone, I've posted here before. 4 years ago actually. 4 years ago I had thought of becoming an RN. Took the first step and went to College to do some general education courses in order to simply qualify to be accepted in the RN program. Unfortunately, I never completed my gen ed's. I couldn't balance school, work, and my finances to be able to stay in College. Story of my life. I have ambitions, but when I get things started, I don't seem to ever finish. Which brings me to now. I want to do something with my life. Something meaningful and rewarding. I have many relatives (aunts, cousins, etc) who are in the nursing profession. I recently returned from visiting my relatives and one of my aunts (who I love very very much, and who is a nurse) kept telling me that I would make a wonderful nurse, and that she sees me as being a nurse. Since that conversation, I've been rethinking about becoming a nurse. More specifically, a practical nurse, at least to begin with. I've been thinking of what my role as a practical nurse would be and what my duties and responsibilities would be. I really want to make a difference in someones life and to help others. I've read a lot of posts on this forum about what the duties of a PN and a RN are. All very informative. I'm mostly worried about maybe 1 or 2 things. (1) Am I right for this profession? (2) If I have difficulty with vomit or performing enemas, does that mean I shouldn't become a PN and should pick a different career? I've thought about being a nurse of some kind for a while now. It keeps coming up (in my thoughts and in conversations). Talking to my relatives, recently, made me rethink about becoming a nurse all over again. Is that a sign?
  2. Thanks Nesher. Your absolutely right. I would be limiting myself if I were to become a vet tech. Extra schooling isn't going to kill me either. I think that you've just made up my mind for me. I've decided to percue a career in nursing! That will now be one of my new life goals. Thank you. p.s. I's just started my courses here at Seneca College (PRe-Health Science) and I'm enjoying every minute of it. It's much better then sitting behind a desk in a cubicle and hating my job. At least now I know and feel that I'm getting somewhere and that I'm doing work for a good cause. If anything, I would strongly recommend College/University to anyone who wishes to do so but has second thoughts. It can get expensive, going to school, but isn't your future worth it? I know it is! Thank you everyone for your thoughts. You've been a great help to me. Regards, Kevin (future RN)
  3. I need guidance!!!! I've been out of school for 10 years now. I didn't go to College/University after I graduated because I didn't know what career I wanted to have. I DIDN'T want to spend thousands of dollars going to school and then finding out that I don't like what I'm doing. So, I took my time. I've been working in call centre environments ever since then. And now, I HATE IT! I can't stand hearing the phone ring. I cringe. That's how bad it's gotten. I've gone to College back in 2001. I tried Chef Training. I thought that I would of really liked it and that I would of excelled. Not so. I hated it. I couldn't stand being around sharp knives and gas and fire. Freaked me out too much. Luckily, I didn't spend too much for that course. I only stayed for 2 months. Bad...I know. BUT, the good thing about it is that I now know that being a Chef isn't something I'd like to do. Fast forward till now, 2005. I'm going to be 28 yrs old in August (Not looking forward to 30) and I need a plan. I need a goal in my life. I WILL NOT be behind a computer, listening to people yell and call me names. Nor do I want to hear a phone ringing/beeping every 5 seconds! I've had enough of that life. I need a career change. And I need it now! This fall I'm going to Seneca College here in Ontario. I'll be taking a Pre-Health Science course. I'll be learning Math, Chemistry, Biology and English. I've taken all these courses before in high school, except for biology. However, I didn't get good grades in school. I didn't apply myself as well as I should of. So, I've decided to redo them all. That way, I'll be able to get better grades which in return would mean that I would have a better chance of acceptance once I apply for the course of my choice the following year. Here's my problem. I'm divided between either becoming a Nurse and take my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN) [4yrs] or a Veterinary Technician (RVT) [2yrs]. I like BOTH fields. But, I can't make up my mind. The length of the courses doesn't scare me. I'm willing to be in school for as long as it takes if it means that I'll have a great job afterwards with lots of opportunities. Not to mention a better pay and a better self worth. I like making a difference in peoples lives. I enjoy seeing someone or an animal feel better and smile. Yes, animals do smile. Hahaha So, my question to you is this... Which field should I specialize in? RN or RVT? All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Ummmmm No. Not Bachelor of Manure Science. I wouldn't make that kind of mistake. Humber College calls it Bachelor of Nursing (BN) and Seneca College calls it Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).

Excellent. Thanks everyone for your input. For some reason one college calls it Bachelor of Nursing and another calls it Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Maybe I read this wrong but, if I were to take the Bachelor of Science course, I'd have to do an extra 2 yrs in order to get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Does that make sense? BTW, I live in Toronto, Ontario CANADA.
  6. I bought myself a digital recorder also for my classes. Whats great about the SONY Digital Voice Recorder is that I can record hours and hours of stuff and then transfer it onto my computer and then it'll write/type everything that was said. That way, you don't have to type anything. It does it all for you. It might be pricy at first, but it's well worth the investment. SONY Digital Voice Recorder

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference between a Bachelor of Nursing degree vs a Bachelor os Science in Nursing degree? Is one "better" then the other? Would one give me a better chance to find employment when the time comes? Thank you. Kevin
