  1. I have been working for 3 mos on a Tele/Stepdown unit. My ratio is 7/1. I stay busy as heck, but I love it. It's crazy stressful at times, but my patients make it all worth it. I usually only have 5 or 6 pts unless we have a full house. Yesterday, everything that could happen, happened except for a code. I didn't get out of there until 1945. Still, I love it. I have great co-workers, and that makes a big difference I think. They all know I'm a rookie, but they don't treat me any different from anyone else. I know I can go to any of them if I have questions or problems. I think a big problem new grads face is organization. It's amazing how good organization can make your whole day better. I chose to work mostly weekends when I first got off of orientation three weeks ago. It really helped me get my own method of organization down without all the hustle and bustle of all of the daily procedures that go on during the week. Now when I work weekdays, I simply handle all my procedure pts first, then go on with my schedule. It works great and helps me to not feel so scattered. On days when I seem to get the high maintenance pts, I just add some extra prayers in there!
  2. I've done that too. This is like the upteenth time I've worn some sort of monitor. I've worn the event monitor several times for 7 days, and it never fails the day or so after I take it off, the SVT acts up again. It's frustrating. I'm waiting for the arrhythmia specialist to contact me for my consult appointment. Maybe this time they can do something to help me figure this thing out. Jen
  3. I was talking to a :redbeathe Doc about the Holter and that I've done it before with no results. He told me this time I should be a "very bad patient" and maybe this time it would help induce the SVT to get it on the monitor tape. I figured I'd give it a shot. When else am I gonna get the green light to be bad? :chuckle Jen Just following Doc's orders. LOL
  4. Last Wed at work I had an episode of SVT. Luckily, I work on Tele, so they knew exactly what to do. They hooked me up to a unit, and my heart rate was 210. I've had sporadic episodes all of my life. Usually I can cough or induce the vaso vagal response and get it to stop. That wasn't the case last Wed. I ended up in the ER, and after three failed attempts at carotid massage, I was given 6 of andenosine. The MD ordered a bunch of stuff I've had in the past, but the problem is I've never had an episode while wearing the monitor. They were able to capture it on the EKG in the ER, so that is good. I'm not asking for anything bad to happen, but I would really like to be able to capture this thing for them. It's very scary, and the pattern is changing over time. The episodes last longer, and my old control measures don't seem to be working anymore. I get SOB, tingling in the fingers, and light headed. So today I'm eating lots of chocolate, and drinking Mello-Yellow. Anyone care to join me? :redbeathe Jen :redbeathe
  5. Thank you so much! I've been orienting for three days this week because my preceptor is on a mission trip. I will start getting to do more when she returns, and she likes to give quizzes. I'm trying to get prepared! This helps tremendously! :) Jenni
  6. I was hoping that some of you would share your experience with me. I'm a new grad going to work on a Tele unit. I would like to make some pocket cards of farely common drugs that I will be giving so that I can become familiar with them. I'm trying to come up with a good list of need to know drugs. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!! Jenni
  7. :balloons: congratulations!!!!! :balloons: jen, rn
  8. Just got my results shortly after 1000! I PASSED! Jenni
  9. I'm thinking that I won't find out on a Sunday. I took the exam at 0900 and nothing has changed on my Pearson account! Going crazy in South Carolina!!!!!! Jenni
