I am graduating from the University of Maine in May with a bachelors in Exercise Science. Unfortunately, I recently decided nursing is for me. My plan is to apply to a few Accelerated Nursing Programs and see if I get in. I have average grades (3.3 GPA) and I have taken most of the science prereqs (microbiology, chemistry, anatomy). If I do get into an accelerated program I would have to take out a lot of loans and I would also have to live where I do not know anyone. The other option I was thinking was to live in Portland, Maine which is ideal and go to Southern Maine community college and get my Associates in Nursing. I would be happier in Portland because almost all my friends will be living there. I would also save around $40,000. I am worried though if I only have an Associates degree that it will be much more difficult to find a job. Am I slightly better off because I would also have a bachelors degree in another field? I think if I did get my associates, I would work for a few years and then definitely work towards getting my Bachelors in Nursing through a program online or something. Which option do you think is best? Any advice would be great! :)
