  1. Interested in hearing your thoughts, comments, and opinions. I am applying for the Nursing program at North Central Missouri College and have to write an entrance essay that can not be more than 150 words.... Growing up I spent a lot of time around my aunt and uncle, both of whom are in the medical field. My aunt is a P.A. and my uncle is a Firefighter; they have always had a positive outlook on life. Often, I would listen to them as they share stories from their past and smile inwardly as I could see their compassion and humanity for people all around. Yes, I want to go into the nursing field to help people but for me this is something more than that. Nurses get the opportunity to comfort and help patients when they are sick or scared and leave a greater impact on those around them. Watching and listening to my aunt and uncle has inspired me to be all that I can be and take this next step in my journey to becoming a nurse. Appreciate your thoughts and time.
  2. Would changing the whole essay and including something about how I was born premature and had a pulmonary hemorrhage at 2 days and link that to how I want to be a nurse be more acceptable?
  3. Do you have any suggestions of what I could replace that with?
  4. Interested in hearing your thoughts, comments and opinions if you have a moment to read this. I am applying for entry into the nursing program at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Missouri. The application process requires me to write an essay... In a minimum of 100 words but no more than 150 explain why you want to enter the Practical Nursing Program. Several years ago I was a competitive gymnast but over time injuries, pain and ultimately depression began to take over my body. After retiring from the sport I spent countless hours in doctor's offices and checking in with nurses. I quickly realized that being a nurse isn't always about the medical side of things, though that does matter greatly, it is also about the empathy, awareness of details and ones perspective. While struggling with constant pain and depression medical personnel would often dismissed me immediately as if I didn't exist. The loneliness that came from that was unmistakable however, the reassurance that came from the nurses that I remember even more are the ones who calmed my fears and reassured me in the midst of the unknown. I believe my past has better equipped me to go this route and I want to go into nursing share compassion with others. Any thoughts or comments are welcome as I have spent several days and nights working on this and I am having a hard time finding the right words. I don't want going into this program to be based on money or anything like that. I truly believe my past has helped equip me to go this path though.
