Reputation of BHCC nursing program
I'm currently in the program at BHCC and to be 100% honest, its a joke. The "teachers" just read powerpoints. They dont actually teach. We have a running joke in our class that we are really teaching ourselves and will actually be graduating from youtube university. We feel as if we are on our own. The Dean is a joke. All they care about is their pass percentage rating on the NCLEX- which is fine, but start by getting teachers that can teach or teacher that actually care and dont just go through the motions. IF they actually cared, they would hold a meeting with all the nursing students and get the truth from people that are actually in the program. But they dont want to know. I raised a ruckus the first semester I was there and it fell on deaf ears. They dont care. They have their agenda and politics and students are the last thing on their lists. Mary Folan needs to retire and take Christine Johnsen with her.

Bunker Hill Weekend Program Over
I already have a BS in another field. I returned to BHCC to change careers. Not all of us have the luxury of sitting in school full time during the day or even in the evening. Classes usually start at 4 PM. We work 9-5, if not longer. We all work and have families. The weekend program would be fine if they had teachers that knew how to teach. We put in the same amount of class and clinical time as the day and evening classes, so we are devoting time, its the program itself, not when we take classes that it the problem. We are currently in the middle of the second semester.

Bunker Hill Weekend Program Over
We just learned that we will be the last "weekend" program group. What we've been told is that the hybrid program will essentially be taking its place or they will some how merge the hybrid and weekend program. I assume that means labs and weekend clinicals, but dont hold me to that. The Hybrid program is basically made up of online lectures and assignments and you would have to actually come into the college and do your lab work, as well as attend your clinical assignments at various hospitals and facility off campus. I am not liking the weekend program here at all. There are several students already looking to transfer out of it its so bad. Its disorganized, and our professor can't really teach. She reads power points. She reads power points,at break-neck speed, we have already have read on line. She is more in a hurry to get out there than we are. This may as well be considered a hybrid class because everything we are shown in class is available at home and the students have to tell the teacher where to find stuff. Sat. morning labs consist of the reading of the power points, and then she goes on youtube and starts clicking on random videos regarding what we are working on that day. She's never watched them before, so we all have to sit there and watch some videos that are out of date, or flat out wrong. She has no list of video prepared, not real teaching plan that any of us have seen other than what is on the syllabus and teaching schedule that day. Now I cant really speak for the day or evening groups, but the lack of overall organization and communication in the entire nursing department has been an ongoing issue. My advice- take your pre-reques at BHCC, Anatomy/ Physiology, Micro, drug calc, etc, then go find a better program some where else. If I knew then what I know and have seen now, I would have never even bothered to apply.

Bunker Hill Weekend Program Over
According to our professors, The BHCC Weekend Nursing program is being merged in with the Hybrid program. Which makes perfect sense because Friday night lectures and Sat labs consist of the teacher reading power points and showing us youtube videos we can see at home. She doesnt actually teach. No need to drive all the way in for any lectures. They are beyond ridiculous. They dont teach, they just waste time. Over all the BHCC program needs to be overhauled and need to establish some, ANY, kind of communication between the professors, teachers, staff, students etc. Just found out today that one of our 6 week clinicals, that should be Sun 7am- 7pm, was changed to Sat 12-8pm. That's not what we singed up for, what we were told when we signed up, and throws a huge monkey wrench into people's schedules. Plus it cuts our psych clinical rotation down by 24 hours. I have no interest in doing papers to make up for the on the floor work. Its not the same. According to our teacher, she had no idea about the change; Not until the newly hired clinical psych instructor came in to introduced herself to us and asked which student will be in her next week 12-8 pm clinical. HUH? What? The poor clinical instructor had no idea what was going on. She said she told the woman who had hired her, that she could only do clinical on Sat, and that woman who hired her said that it was fine. Really? How about the admins tell the students that and not the week before!! The entire weekend program needs to be addressed, be it class work, clinical or hybrid. Its a mess.
