Best Way to Resign -
Update....There was a per diem position posted, I asked NM if I could apply for it, he said that I certainly could. So I am now per diem ER, full-time school nurse....couldn't be happier. Thank You so much

Best Way to Resign -
I posted recently about resigning full-time ER position, but want to be per diem. The problem is I've only been there 5 months. The consensus here was that I do not have enough ER experience to ask for per diem. Now I have a new question. There is now a posting for a Per Diem ER nurse. We have had about 4 nurses recently leave, and there are postings for full-time, part-time, and per diem. This makes me think it's more appropriate for me to ask for a position that's posted. I'm assuming they're not being so particular if they're posting. And is resigning full-time, then asking if I can fill the per diem appropriate? Or should I just ask if I can go per diem without resigning? Thank You, Appreciate your wisdom

Best Way to Resign
Well that was my question....I have been at this facility for 2 years in Med/Surg, maybe it would be more appropriate to apply to med/surg per diem, and hope that he'll offer it - but I am doubtful.

Best Way to Resign
I'm really excited to be in ER, only been there 5 mos. but it is taking it's toll on me physically (I'm 49). My legs hurt all the time, and I miss my family. It seems I'm always working when they're home. I live/work in a two hospital community, one closed its ER now we're the only ER. Its a 300 bed hosp with cancer center, designated stroke center, L&D, maternity, NICU, cardiovasc. Its very busy, All the Time. I work 12h shifts, and usually with no break. I take PB&J & snacks that I can eat on the run. I have a Love/Hate relationship with my job, but I am doing very well, and already feel a bond with my co-workers. A month ago I was offered a school nurse position. (Been a sub nurse for 5 yrs) After much thought, and coaxing from my family I want to take it. That's where I've wanted to end up my last years as a nurse. And...family first. Really want to stay per diem in ER, but afraid NM might not let me due to short stay & little experience. I'm not sure if I should explain in a letter, or face to face. I'm afraid I won't be able to express how I feel when talking to him. Under the circumstances, is a letter inappropriate? Thank You in advance

ER nurse
Just hired in ED. I'm currently working on a busy telemetry/step-down unit. A little background...was an LPN for 22 years- when my kids were all in school, I returned to school. My first RN position was a 6 month stay on a medsurg/drug ETOH detox unit. I was then hired to my present position, I wanted this position for the experience, and it's been great experience. I've really wanted to end up in ED. I figured after 15mos. in my present position I might qualify for ED. Not thinking I would really hear back, I applied, interviewed, and just found out I'm hired. All of my positions have been within the same hospital network, so I'm not job hopping. Now I'm feeling a little intimidated. And I'm sure you've figured that I'm an "older nurse". I guess I'm just looking for advice or reassurance from ER experienced nurses. Feeling really intimidated-even though I haven't started yet. But I'm also very excited!
