  1. I understand. Well if its not too much to ask, would you happen to know any websites or forums that I can probably get a better idea of whats going on? Thank you.
  2. One of my concerns that I forgot to mention was; doctor and PA said if penicillin doesn't help I should contact the doctor they referred me to, to DRAIN the gland. I've been researching and trying to find surgeries or videos of such an operation but cannot find it anywhere. Can you even drain that gland non-surgically? (That's what I was informed at *********.
  3. Hello to all my nurse friends, I do realize I am out of place here for asking such a question, but it's the closest way I can get realistic answers. A few months ago I started noticing a growth on my cheek. I didn't make much of it until it really started hurting a few days ago and progressively got worse... I soon realized it was my submandibular gland and it is now about the size of a quarter, but it has an oval shape in a way. I went to the ER today and the doctor didn't give me an MRI or CT or even ultrasound, not even on my request. How can you give me an oral exam and confirm that I have a cyst in my gland? He prescribed me penicillin and ibuprofen.... very generic medication for my problem... I've noticed other changes with me, such as; severe headache (mostly on right side on my head, where lump is)... i've been having appetite issues, jaw pain, teeth hurt, and i appear to have some cold sore or wound on my bottom right lip. Also.... something very odd... the inside of my right nostril was covered with white ...skin? I'm not sure what it was, it didn't seem like puss. But it was on my actual nose skin (inside). I got home not too long ago and examined my nostril and it had become significantly worse. The inside of my nose is now pretty infected and its peeling off crusty dark yellow skin. I literally have to PEEL it off. My mom got upset that I did that, and she made me clean inside with a Qtip. Once again, EVERY issue i have right now is all intertwined with the right side of my face. I even feel pressure on the right side of my head; behind/to the side of my ear. Basically, I ask very kindly that you comment and insight or information you may have regarding my condition. My doctors aren't really helping me out. I have an appointment with an Oral doc tomorrow, so I hope he's not indifferent towards my problem too.... ALSO, my dentist confirmed with xrays that the lump was not visible in the imaging.... Thanks again, and I wish the best health upon everyone to be able to provide help and health to people like me. :)
  4. Hello friends, I've been desperately running around all of Los Angeles looking for a damn program that is reasonable for me. What I REALLY want is to become an RN and focus on trauma. (If I can even have a say lol) My mother was pushing me to get into surgical tech.... which is nothing like an RN obviously, but the closest thing/quickest way in the OR. BUT. The school I was planning on going to (Concorde), has not been working out because of financial aid reasons, and I'm not planning on spending $30k on a dumb course that everyone reviews as not educational and a "money hungry school". My main point is... I have no one to help me or at least even talk to me about my future. And slowly but surely my panic is increasing. I have no idea what to do. I'm not sure which school is the best. If I should just go to community college first... Help!!!! Anyone have any suggestions? BSN is 4 years, surgical tech is 1 year or so. A lot cheaper, but no good schools around. Which one is more likely to get hired? And what about a physicians assistant. What are the requirements for a PA?
  5. Thank you all so much for taking time off of your day to help me clear up my concerns. I truly appreciate all the wonderful insight. That being said, What exactly is a RNFA and PA. Like what programs would I need to take for that? And what role do they play in a hospital? I truly am sorry, I am very new to medical terminology. P.S. I would LOVE to study to become a surgeon, I am infatuated with surgery. I watch them all day online haha. But it's way too many years that I don't have the ability to commit to studying. All the years of school, and then internship, and fellowship, etc... by the time I get to even make an incision I'll lose my mind! haha. I will look into the PA and RNFA online, but direct answers from experienced nurses are a lot more knowledgable and understandable. Thanks!
  6. I see, but Surgical Techs barely make a living! I don't want to sound melodramatic, but the standard of living is so high right now... I need to be able to financially support myself and a family. I'm probably leaning more towards RN, I've heard an RN can scrub in.. is that not the case? I talked to a West Coast University admissions rep and he said that you take the program (3 years and 3 months) and then you take the license test (forgot the name of it), and then you get to choose your field. So what exactly does a "Surgical" Nurse do, if not maintain the OR?
  7. So you're saying that Surgical TECH will allow me to handle instruments in the OR, but regardless I won't be able to perform anything myself? I'm getting different information from different people. I was led to believe that Surgical Tech does not handle equipment, merely sanitizes and preps the OR. Are you familiar with the salaries of a Surgical Tech VS. Surgical Nurse? I've been informed, not only does a Surgical Tech. get paid significantly more, they actually have a part in the OR. As an experienced nurse, do you have a suggestion as to which program is more suitable for what I'm interested in? I want a well paying salary, of course (with all that student loans I'll need to pay it off quick!) but I also want to scrub in. If I choose Surgical RN, I will be able to scrub in right?
  8. Just for the record guys, I'm not really familiar with the medical terms yet... I'm not sure what a PACU is, or any other acronym... thanks. :-P
  9. I'm not really interested in LVN. I want to get into RN. I was informed that the best way to go would be go for my LVN and then RN... But I was to be a Surgical Nurse. Not just a regular RN.
  10. Good day to all nurses, My name is Emma, and I am looking into going to school for nursing. What I want is to become a surgical nurse. The nurses that assist in surgeries, and aid the doctors. I'm not sure which program I should be getting into. My dream is to become a trauma surgical nurse. I live in Los Angeles, California. I've been looking allover for a good school to go to. My family friends daughter suggested CES of Burbank (http://www.cescollege.com/) and I made an appointment for tomorrow to go check out the school. But if anyone has different schools they'd like to suggest, that would be delightful. My main concern is, I'm not sure which program to take for what I want to do. I went to Concorde and I almost signed up until I realized their program was for Surgical Tech. Which is found out is different than Surgical Nurse... you can't really perform surgeries yourself (suturing, etc..) Can anyone give me any insight as to how I begin my journey into Surgical Nursing? What programs I should be looking into? And schools, if possible. Thank you so much for your time and concern.
