  1. [so my advice to you is: Do not make any decisions right now. Go to nursing school. See what areas you like the most. Get as much education as you can because it gives you options. Be a RN for awhile before you decide if you want to become a NP. If you are independent like I am, consider public health nursing or hospice. You can have your own patients and make decisions about them without having to consult with other nurses. The hours are good. Best of luck to you! Great post! Very good advice!
  2. I would do the MSN. Later on, you'll be glad you did!:)
  3. So true! It's all over before you even know it.
  4. Hey Commuter: Just curious as to why some people deem hospice as undesirable?
  5. Hi Trauma: I spoke with an advisor from UofP and am looking at MSN, MSN educator, and MSN informatics. I'm not quite sure what route I want to go, all I know is that I really want to earn my master's, and do not have the time for clinicals. I love Hospice work, however, contracts for PAs and NPs were recently terminated. I do not want to keep running from house to house, I want to work a little easier when I get older. I'm also thinking of going back into the hospital, but again, that is hard work. What was the cost of your UofP programs? I was quoted roughly $24,000.00 for MSN.
  6. Did you do clinicals with your MSN? UofP sounds good, expensive I've heard, but I might have issues with clinicals and I need to work full time.
  7. Hi trauma: Tell me about your education and also what you might suggest for my career path. I did my bsn online.
  8. Hi mom4josh: I'm curious how and where you obtained your degree and/or education. How long have you been in your position? I work as a hospice nurse currently, and have a bsn, but would love to do what you are doing. I need more job fulfillment. What would you recommend for me? Thanks in advance!!:)
  9. I have a 93 y/f patient with a moderate ileum. Recent abd. x-ray showed no obstruction (she was cleaned out in the hospital), docs said she would not survive surgery. Lots of right-side abd. pain - loose stools, dysphagia, emesis, increasing weakness. Scheduled MS contin and PRN Roxanol, levsin (bowel spasms), phenergan PR PRN, what else should I be thinking here? Bowel sounds are distant. Thoughts?
  10. I'm taking it on the 15th also, 0900. I do many questions ea. day, saunders, kaplan test, mosby's flashcards, hurst review notes, NCSBN online tests. Trying not to burn out right now. Will take Tuesday off from studying, everyone says to just take the dang thing. Any advice for me?
  11. I too am studying for NCLEX right now! I took hurst review back in March, 2005 during my final semester of nursing school and Marlene was awesome!! I am studying her material in-depth, Saunders CD questions, Davis NCLEX book of questions, and attempting to rea/understand the KAPLAN book ($30) strategy tips, and also the Kaplan trainer CD (friend gave me a copy) with 6 or 8 tests on it. My scores have always been low on Kaplan test. (I did not take the kaplan review course). Scores of 63%, 59% & 59%. Hey, at least I was consistent on the last 2 tests and they did increase in # of questions. I am frustrated also, but I just try to keep plugging away and think positive thoughts. The big one is scheduled for June 15th (wondering if I should reschedule - I was an "A" student thru nursing school) and I am trying not to be nervous about it. I'm going to keep doing questions in my NCLEX books and taking Kaplan tests and just maybe...One positive note about Kaplan is you can look at the analysis of the test and i.d. your weak areas. I've never posted on this website so I should introduce myself: Laurette-GN05
