  1. thanks sue, I have many students feeling sorry for me- it seems working on this ward it very intense and not student likes going there. I have to challenge myself and make the most of it. Isint that what nurses also do! I feel its healthy to step outside your comfort zone which is certainly what you did by heading to florida. Sounds like you have a wonderful career. Many thanks for your response.
  2. I hear so many students wanting to do the degree in adult nursing- but is their any difference really (besides the certificate) between Dip in adult nursing and the Degree- and does one qualification help you career better than the other?.
  3. Hi everyone I am starting my first placement in a few weeks. I am working on the elderly ward in rehabilitation, acute and terminally ill. Its 7 days on 2 days off. Can anyone offer me advice and perhaps tell me what I could expect. Any hints and tips From a very nervous student nurse!
  4. Yes I am in Adult Nursing and Yes I am over 21 but whish I had the body of one!!!
  5. Dear ALL I am only a few weeks into my first year as a student nurse and so far so good. I was wondering could anyone direct me towards a good book with regards to writing a care plan. I haven't got my first placement for another 8 weeks but I feel it would be a good idea to have a read so I am well prepared. Secondly, I have yet to hear from the NHS bursary, have now downloaded the form myself! As I have a dependent I believe I may be entitled to a little more money on top of my bursary. However I have to provide my partners salary deatils- which is fime. But is it worth it, he is earning in the mid 20s- would they take into account the ammount of rent we pay etc? Many thanks
  6. So as long as I am careful i can begin work? I have my next injection early march. Had my Nursing interview yesterday, it was very stressful and at one point during the interview I lost my train of thought, after a few seconds of silence they asked me another question. Amazing how nerves can affect your performance!
  7. thank you very much- I was really surprised when the agency said it was ok to work with one injection and that they had care assistants working who had'nt the hep b injection. And even more concerning is the agency director who informed me of this was once a nurse!
  8. Hello, hope you can help with this.... I am starting as a care assistant with an agency. I only recently had my first hep b injection and the nurse informed me that my second hep b will protect me about 98%, thats fine. However the agency says they have people who begin work without a hep b injection and that my one injection is sufficient. Is this correct? I will mainly be working in nursing homes to begin with and later hospitals.
  9. Well my doctor filled out a form for me and i informed him of my counselling and he wasnt aware of it but wrote it in anyway. I now have to fill out another form and explain why, I am wondering what to write and I guess as it was to do with my abusive childhood but I am not sure I to put this and I guess writing childhood trauma is a bit much although to be honest very fitting.
  10. excuse the spelling mistakes!!
  11. Thanks for the replies. I have to wrote the reson as to why i saught caouselling, little space to write in. Its a lot easier to verbally explain it than write this down. I have about enought room to write 2 sentances!
  12. Thanks guys Its a mental health occupational health form. They ask have you ever had counselling, psycotheraphy or psychiatric treatment. I saught counselling through the NHS as i could not afford it privately, I ended up seeing a T A therapist who was herself studying towards her T A degree at the time. I imagine they will see this in my medical records. I have an appointment with my doctor this week so I am sure he will be able to advise.I have to say its making me feel nervous- but I am not ashamed, its trying to convice the mediacl experts that I am sane; i just didn't want to wake up at 40 and think 'who the hell am I'! Will keep you informed. Thanks again.
  13. Hello I have passed my numeracy test for adult nursing and I have an interview in a few weeks. I have received lots of forms and am a little concerned about the occupational health form. Two things which are bothering me are; I received counselling for 2 yrs (finished in june2005) not because I was depressed, I wanted to make changes in my life for the better and basically find myself, I had a very abusive childhood so I had to grow up fast and therefore did not really understand my full potential. I am wondering if they may take a bad view on this. I have to explain in writing why I received counselling. Secondly: I occasionally get floaters in both my eyes and the hospital said I had PVD- POSTERIOR VITREOUS DETACHMENT. I am panicing that this will be held against can anyone advise please?
  14. Hello I have recently applied for some agency work as I want to get some hands on experience before my Nursing course (thats if i am accepted) I work as a volunteer in a hospice FOR OVER A YEAR NOW and having spoken to a few agency workers and learnt that in general you get treated like dirt where the nurses take advantage of you because your new and not experienced. I am concerned and was wondering can anyone give some sound advice. ALso, the dreaded numercay test is looming :rotfl: for my nurse course. Anyone done it yet and can offer some feed back? Lisa1
