  1. Thanks everyone! @HouTx: Unfortunately, my school does not have a nursing program, so it does not offer a BSN.
  2. I constantly hear about extracurricular activities/work that are looked upon fondly for grad schools and medical schools, but I'm wondering what some of the equivalents would be, in general, for nursing school. I've been volunteering at a local hospital, and hope to do something that involves working with women or children later too. It's likely that I'll pursue a specialty involving these populations. However, I also have some research experience under my belt, because I am majoring in Biology and simply enjoy it. Will having these things on my resume put me at a disadvantage because it seems like something a pre-med or pre-bio grad student typically would do? I think I've definitely gained a lot in my various research experiences to be able to apply some of these things to my career as a nurse, but I'm a little lost as how to "market myself" (with lack of a better word) to nursing schools. I don't know if this helps, but once I've been in the nursing field for a while, I might be interested also in entering academia as a professor or otherwise. Also,I'm thinking of taking a gap year or two after college. Are there any programs or activities that you might suggest I look into? I would appreciate any advice you could give me. Thanks for your help! -pearyphery
  3. Hello everyone :) I am so excited about finally joining this forum, as I've been reading posts on and off for about 2 years. I'm going to be honest--I can sometimes be an indecisive person and so was undecided for a long while. I started out wanting to be a nurse, then flirted with the prospect of being a doctor (which I falsely seemed to think was my calling), and now I feel very strongly and excited about pursuing my original dream of nursing, which is why I finally made the decision to hit Register. I initially became curious about nursing after interacting with several nurses when my grandmother was very ill in the hospital. They made all the difference! A little about my educational background and goals: I am currently an undergraduate student, and will most likely end up pursuing some sort of Master's Entry Program as I am studying in a liberal arts curriculum. Unfortunately for me, I did not discover nursing until after I started college so wasn't able to pursue the BSN right out of high-school. I am interested in becoming a CNM or FNP, something that will put me in contact with a lot of women and children. Of course, I am more than welcome to whatever change this journey has in store for me, too. I am just starting out so I would really appreciate any sort of advice you can give me, whether it's general pre-nursing advice or specific to becoming a CNM or family nurse practitioner. Or, feel free to just say hello too. Thanks for reading!
