  1. I don't want to invest time and money just to not getting any job. I've read some gloomy comments and that's discouraging. I ended up picking PTA over OTA since OTA is only given in those pro-money schools. I also was told PTA are more in demand than OTA. PTA is do given in Miami Dade College and Broward College is way less expensive but I am still worried about the jobs in my area. Other people say it is not that hard as people say. I also checked this www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes312021.htm and it says it is kind of still on demand, so I am confuse that's why I have the next questions: 1)Has anyone heard about PTA being hard to find a job for these days? Anyone from Florida? 2) Is anyone still looking for job? 3) I am a 43 y/o man so, are women preferred over men when hiring people for a job? 4)Is really true that PTA have more demand jobs than OTA? or it is just a hype from advisors. (I won't take OTA anyway since it is not taught on Colleges but private expensive schools. Just curious with this question). Any thoughts? Ty in advance.
  2. Hi, I was wondering if someone could shed some light on PTA vs OTA program which one is better and have better opportunities to get a job particularly in Miami FL. I've read some gloomy comments about people struggling to get a job not only in nursing but also in PTA or OTA, but I am not sure. I would like to go for the OTA since contains more Psychology which I like, but my biggest concern is the fact that OTA is only currently taught in those for-profit schools for some reason, and are really expensive (Concorde, Keyser, South University...), so my plan B is PTA which is do available on College. (Broward or Miami Dade College). But I wouldn't like to study a career that is really glut like Nursing for these days and having to move to another state. Any thoughts? Has anyone heard about PTA being hard to find a job? What about OTA? Some people say is far from it, that OTA is difficut.. I also check the usa jobs and there is no demand but there is some. Any experience, rumors, testimonies?
  3. I have to acknowledge to you are right in certain aspects. Well, I think nursing is not my thing according with your perspective. The other guy above gave me some hopes even though.. At this point I am pretty undecided..
  4. Hey syartingovragain... Pretty straight forward. Thank you so much!
  5. Thank you for you input.. It was helpful. And, well... to be honest I never dreamed about being a nurse or something. Actually I wanted Psychology or Dentist but considering nursery at the end because I know a lot of NSW switch to nursery later since wages are crap.. Just saying.. but yes, thank you.
  6. Hi, I am looking for the best advice in this please. I am 41 and considering involving in nursing career as a RN, since psychology or social work are no so profitable as I think. As you can see sometimes the old saying of "study what you like" over the money I think is not applying today. Even thou I still like taking care of people at some level, but I have some questions. 1) How hard would be studying for a person like me nursing considering that I am more 60% money driven 40% caring ppl? 2) How hard in terms of books, readings and studying in general involves the career? 3) How hard is the job market in Miami? or Fort Lauderdale? ( if you know it) 4) How different is the job market for males? 5) What would be the most difficult thing that one person had to deal in this career? ( in my case I couldn't stand dealing with poop or something) 6) If you live in Miami, I heard Baptist Hospital pays you the entire career and you have to sign up a contract for three years.. ( I don't care as soon as a I get a job). Do you know another place of this that pays your career in Florida and offers housing? Sorry about my questions but there is no other place for better answers than here. Thank you guys...
  7. Thank you all you guys. I never heard about the fact being a 41 ys old guy starting this new career and the fact I am male. I always considered nursery as a women career. I imagine that I'll have to work out a lot to held patients.. just saying.. thank you all again.
  8. I understand.. thks
  9. Thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate it.
  10. Hi, I am a male (40ys), came to the U.S. 7 years ago. I studied Dental Tech. (no license in the u.s), and thinking in switching to Nursing mostly because of wages, shortages, and satisfaction to help others. However, I still in doubt since I heard getting a job, specially in Miami is really hard and people has to go to other states. Even though this Obamacare gives me hopes since I read there will be a huge demand of nurses because of it. But who knows if those predictions are biased or what. I am planning becoming a Nurse with emphasis in psychology, counseling or akin, or maybe I just remain as a simple RN. 1) Will it worth it still at my actual age? ( 41 ys) 2) How would be the market out there? I don't want to move to other state. 3) What is the worst thing I will have to deal with? Some people say that "poop" when there are no auxiliary nurses at hand so.. is that true? 4) What if I want to come back to my original country. My RN will be accepted there? I heard every RN in the U.S. is like a Doctor's degree in other countries.. Thank you
