LSU BSN Spring 2015
Unless there has been a change to how they are handling new student registration (I am a current Soph II), you do not need to register online as they will manually register you during new student orientation next month. You will get all of the info then. Also since every course is a required course (no electives, etc.) and there is only one section of each class, it is literally impossible for classes to fill up as you may have experienced at other schools, so don't worry about that. I will try to check this thread again if anyone has any other questions. Congrats everyone on getting in - rest up for the next 6 weeks because you are going to be working hard and learning a lot!

LSU BSN Fall 2014 Semester
You don't need to get your drug screen done until you start clinicals (which for you will be January 2015). Some clinicals sites require the drug screen to be no older than 6 months so it is preferable to do it as late as possible without being too late, if that makes sense. I'll be starting clinicals in August so I'll get it done over the summer. The school does not administer it; you have to go to a drug screening company and have it done. The background check stuff will be completed when you go to your 3-day orientation. Our orientation was in December and I got cleared to enter clinicals on March 20 (yay!). For the fingerprinting, I had it done at: Innovative Risk Management Services 2714 Canal St. Suite 102 504-309-2104 It was $20 - I would recommend getting it done before you go to orientation that way you can just turn the cards in with your packet for the background check.

LSU BSN Fall 2014 Semester
NSO is what pretty much everyone uses I think. There are others but NSO is what the school suggests. It's only $37/year. Don't buy it until right before you start that way it will last for a full year as opposed to needing to be renewed in the middle of the semester.

LSU BSN Fall 2014 Semester
As a current Sophomore I, I can tell you you will definitely have at least 2 8:00 classes (Physiology, twice a week), possibly 3 depending on which section of Intro to Professional Nursing you end up in (this semester she just split the alphabet down the middle and I wound up in the 8:00; the other section is at 10:00). If you have to take Abnormal Psychology you will have that on Thursday afternoons. You will have Anatomy lecture MWF mornings at either 9:00 or 10:00 depending on which day of the week it is. Then you will have Anatomy lab for 2-3 hours (usually closer to 3) on either Monday or Wednesday afternoons (you get to choose which day but you must stick with that day throughout the semester - I went with Monday). There is also a Physiology lab period on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons but it only meets like 3 or 4 times. All of your big exams (Anatomy and Physiology) will be on Friday afternoons - note this is NOT during your regular class period like you are probably used to (so you have lecture on new material in the morning and then your exam on old material that afternoon - it sucks). Hope this helps.

LSU School of Nursing SPRING 2014 :-)
Orientation is kind of intimidating, huh? Is anyone else commuting from the north shore (I live in Mandeville) and would like to form a study group when classes start? I don't mind meeting on campus either I just feel like it would be easier to have some other north shore people to study with on the weekends, etc.

The website said it should take one business day to process if you are submitting the malpractice application online or 7-10 days if you choose to print it off and mail it. They may indicate when we should do it during orientation. I feel like right now the thing that will take the most time is the student health stuff - immunization records, physical, proof of chicken pox immunity by titer, TB test, etc. - just a lot of forms and the last time I had to do something like this my doctor's office took like a week to get it all filled out for me so that may be the best thing to focus on.

You're welcome! I haven't heard anything about malpractice insurance yet, but we do have to have it by the first day of classes. I imagine they will go over that with us during orientation. If you want to go ahead and bookmark the page for it - here it is - Insurance Options available through NSO The policy is $37 ($35 + some $2 fee) and it runs for a calendar year so I would wait until closer to January 1 to do it so it will be valid through the end of the fall 2014 semester.

Was curious about this as well because I read some conflicting information on the website, so I sent an email... CPR certification does not have to be completed before orientation but it does need to be completed before we start school. I was able to register for a class on November 30 (I'm on the northshore). You can search for the CPR class using this form: Class Connector Search Home- American Heart Association Then on the 'Select a Course' page, the course we need is 'BLS for Healthcare Providers'. The certification is valid for 2 years.
