  1. Hi Amber, I am almost half-way through--hard to believe. I had a BS already in zoology, so a lot of my prereqs were from long ago. My most recent ones I took 1 class at a time and worked really hard so that I got all A's. This really helped with the new point system. The microbiology wasn't that hard, but the Human Anatomy was--I took the insane compacted class at OSU in the summer--it was REALLY intense--not sure I would recommend that. The atmosphere at LBCC is what you make of it, really. The main thing you have to remember is to be flexible. They do seem to make a lot of changes, surprisingly, so just when you seem to get something down, they change it. This throws some people and really stresses them. I keep telling myself to be flexible and not let that kind of stuff stress me out. There are good experiences and bad, but I keep telling myself that the end result will be so worth it. I am managing the program with 2 kids, but I have a lot of support from my family and don't have to work. Kudos to those people who are working full or part time or are single parents. I honestly don't know how they do it. I can't recommend LBCC over any other program, because I am not familiar with the others. If I were young and flexible and could move, I would definitely go to OHSU and get the BSN. If this is an option for you, I would do that! Good luck! CIndyJane
  2. Hi all, I have a general question. I am starting nursing school and am really excited. I have been looking through my textbook and saw several chapters on doing physical exams such as lady partsl, breast, prostate, etc. I have no problem with this type of work, but my question is this: I have never had a nurse do those kinds of exams on me--it is usually the nurse who gets you going at the appointment and then the doc comes in and does a thorough physical exam. I guess I am confused as to roles and where the scope of a nurse ends and a doctor's begins? I know this is something I will learn about eventually, but as I said, I am excited and this question is bugging me. Thanks in advance! CindyJane
  3. Hello all! I am really excited--I just got my acceptance letter. Whoo hoo. :) I think, though, if for some reason I ever want to quit nursing, I could join the circus, because I am getting really good at jumping through hoops! :chuckle Just the application had so many details--getting past classes approved; the pre-req classes filled up--you name it, it seemed like every step of the way there was a hoop to jump through. Now, it is getting immunizations quickly, a criminal background check, etc. All necessary, but with letters that say: if you don't get this done by this date, you are not in the program. Can you imagine getting this far and getting bumped on a technicality? Well, it is all worth it--I'm sure nursing school will be challenging and rewarding--just like the job itself! Regards, Cindy (oh, now I can offically say, nursing student!)
  4. Nope--they still have a nursing program. I am waiting to hear this week if I get in! Although, I have noticed that our local paper has two ads for nursing teachers that have been running for awhile....hmmm. Regards, Cindy
  5. Hi Jill, I received a letter from LBCC last week telling me how many points they have for me. In this letter, they said soon after May 24, they would begin sending letters. I don't know about Lane, but I feel that LBCC and other schools that only go by points are doing a disservice to prospective students. To have a more solid student body, I think they should look at GPA, life experience (including any medical experience or volunteer work), and maybe an essay or interview on the reasons why the person is applying. This point thing has been annoying.... Best of luck to you wherever you end up! Cindy
  6. Hi all, I have applied to Linn Benton CC nursing program and am waiting to hear. Anyone else in this forum from this area? Cindy
