research help
Hey Zambezi, Thanks for the tip, some really interesting opinions there. Some of the opinions here are somewhat archaic to say the least. One doctor whose opinion I asked looked at me as though I has suddenly taken leave of my senses and replied that we must ensure to keep the mystique of the medical profession! So that's what I'm up against here. The replies to my questionnaire should be interesting! There is one hospital that encourages family members to be present during cpr if they wish and that appears to work well, but there aren't any policies to guide the staff as of yet. Must get back to my paper.

research help
Hi TraumaRUs, Thanks for those links, they're really helpful. There's so little research on this area in the UK it's mainly anecdotal evidence. Good luck with your thesis, Banaltra

Working Holiday in Britain for Ozzie nurse
Hi Jenny log on to nmc-uk.org. it will give you all the information you need. From talking to australian nurses here, I gather it can take a while for your registration to come through, so apply for that before you come here, otherwise you'll have to work as a health care assistant. Some good nursing agencies are; Nightingale & Geneva. Avoid NHS professionals as their payrates aren't as competitive as those mentioned. You'll probabaly have more flexibility working as an agency nurse (and earn way more money) than if you're employed directly by one of the hospitals. Good luck.

Nursing Student gaffs
Hey I'm a nurse in the UK and frequently we get student nurses soing placements in the clinical area. Some of the things they do are funny and scary. Here's a few: 1. A pt on bed rest requested a commode. The student being very diligent got the commode, asked the patient to sit on the chair, put the commode on the bed and assisted the pt to climb atop the bed and sit on the commode! 2. Blood transfusion. A unit of blood arrived to the ward but was still quite cold from the fridge, asked student to warm the blood. The student put the unit of blood in the microwave for two minutes! 3. Enema. student heated the enema in boiking water adn administered it :angryfire
