I'm not such a new grad anymore. I graduated last December 2012 from an accelerated program bsn program and I have had no luck finding a hospital job yet. I didn't have much of a work history before did my undergrad degree in business and jumped straight into nursing. I got my license this February and took a job at some agency to basically do paperwork but was required to be an RN. That ended in June and I was offered an rn manager position almost a week after my assignment ended. But while working ive been applying to places like crazy. I live in the nyc area and it is a tough market for inexperienced nurses. I'm starting to lose hope that I will never get a hospital job. I think new nurses need that hospital experience for at least a couple of years. I was a good student too almost 3.8 gpa and I had letters of recommendations from two clinical instructors but nothing has happened yet. I've been invited to two group interviews but so many people attended that I assumed I didn't make a big enough impression since nothing happened from it. Esp since one wasn't specific to new grads and a lot of experienced nurses attended. I feel that taking these jobs were a mistake, even though I get paid as an rn I don't have an interest in the job im in. Now Ive worked as an RN case manager for 5 months and ive started to get calls about doing homecare and other case management positions. Should I leave my current job for possibly a more hands on position in homecare or should I wait it out for at least a year? I want to end up in a hospital so im not sure if taking a position im not interested in will be of any benefit to me. But then again Im not sure being in this position will help me get a clinical hospital job just case manager jobs. Im just so confused and unhappy right now since most of my friends have hospital jobs now and I can't even talk to them abut how I feel. Plus I volunteer. Im not sure what im doing wrong.....
