I was shocked at how much I was going to loose. The hospitals here do not pay well unless your a float.

I want to get my NP eventually. Everyone always says you "need" acute care experience, but I feel like my LPN experience coupled with my now RN experience is really sufficient. I guess I just want to know that I'm not ruining my career by turning down an acute care hospital job.

I have been working in an acute care rehab for the last year and I just got offered a job in a PCU in a local hospital. I'm really torn on what to do. My current position is a charge nurse at the rehab and I am about to do wound and ostomy training to become certified. I have been an RN for 2 years and have about 6 months of hospital experience. I didn't love the hospital when I was there. I know not all jobs are perfect, and I'm wondering if I will kick myself in the long run if I don't take the hospital job now. The reason I'm worried is because I will be losing $11 an hour going to the hospital. I was an LPN for 12 years prior to becoming an RN so I have a lot of experience, but everyone keeps telling me that I need hospital experience. Sorry for the sporadic post. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That's why I'm so conflicted. I love hands on, but at the same time I want to just do the education side which the alz job would be. But I don't want to pigeon home myself.

I was an LPN for 12 years before becoming an RN, I worked in a hospital for 6 months before leaving. The hospital just wasn't my thing. I have been doing acute home health care since. And when I say acute I mean my patients are discharged from the hospital very sick and not ready to be home. I now have a job offer for Banner Alzheimers Inst. and a short term rehab. as a Charge Nurse. I need advice! I make great money doing home health, but I'm really tired of the driving. Do I take the alz. job and stop hands on nursing, or stay hand on and have the same crappy hours?

I am a somewhat new nurse (1st year), and I've been working in a hospital on a med surg floor. I have learned a lot but med surg is not my thing. The hospital has an opening in the NICU but they will not let me transfer until I've been there for one year. And truth be told I am not loving the hospital as much as I thought I would. I feel like all I am is an employee number. The hospital I work at is huge and maybe thats part of it. I interviewed and was offered a position at a home health company this week. I worked home health as an LPN for years but never as an RN. Can anyone give me any advice if you've switched from hospital nursing to home health. The good and the bad is much welcomed.

How hard is the TEAS testing? I am entering the UofP LPN to BSN program soon, but I have to pass the TEAS test first. The advisor said that it is a difficult test that a lot of new students are failing the first time around. What science is on there? Is it just basic science? I did just finish all my A&P, and microbiology classes. But still am a bit nervous. It's an expensive test that I really don't want to fail. Not to mention I don't want to wait the additional 3 months before I can take the test again.
