  1. I have just graduated nursing school. I have been thinking about which field to go into and I found that I really enjoyed my psych rotation. I'm really considering going into the field but some concepts about psych nursing scare me. I hear that mostly male nurses work in the psych field because you need to have physical strength to stop aggressive patients at times. I'm also worried about patients getting too attached to nurses. I have had my own experience where a patient automatically attached just because she claimed I looked like her daughter. She asked me for my address and everything! Now of course I didn't give it to her but the stalker issue does cause some uneasiness. So please tell me about your experiences as a psych nurse, and whether you're male or female. What you like, what you don't like. Would you have chosen something else?
  2. Hello all, My name is Natalie and this is my first thread :) I'm currently a nursing student at CUNY York. I have 3 semesters left... graduation is drawing near. This semester I'm taking a Leadership & Management in Professional Nursing class. My first paper requires me to interview a nurse manager. The purpose of my paper is to learn about what it entails. So, please share! I'd like to get to know you. If you prefer to email the information to me, then my email is [email protected]. Before beginning, please state your name (Initials are fine), where and what field you work/have worked as a manager and for how long. Remember I will be using this information on my paper. Also I'd like to thank anyone who participates in this. You're helping me tremendously. I have several questions I would like to specifically ask. Here is what I would like to know: 1. How would you describe yourself as a leader? What is your personal philosophy on leadership? 2. What experiences do you have as a nurse manager that stand out to you? How has this influenced you on your personal development? Are there any experiences you haven't had yet that you believe may help you become a more effective manager? 3. How do you see leadership evolving in nursing today and in the future? 4. What do you think are the three most challenging issues facing you, the manager? Why? 5. How did a mentor or lack of a mentor impact on your leadership style? 6. Do you have any advice for me or for anyone that aspire to become a nurse manager in the future? Some other questions: 1. What level of education was needed for you to become a manager? 2. What have you achieved as a manager that you're exceptionally proud of? 3. What challenges have you faced in this position? 4. What do you like best about being a manager? 5. How do you encourage others to work together? 6. Have you ever felt like you've been taken advantage of by your staff?
