  1. Hello, I'm just looking for any advice on my current situation, for a decision I've been struggling to make. I'm 27 years old, and currently have a bachelor in business management. I've had a couple office jobs in purchasing and financial analysis since I graduated 5 years ago, and I struggle to see myself continuing to work in an office setting. The days get so boring and monotonous. So, I was looking to nursing as a potential career change that would bring more excitement and fulfillment, and some intellectual stimulation. I was recently accepted into an accelerated 1 year BSN program, but now that the program is about to start, I'm getting cold feet. I've been reading a lot of negative things online about under staffing, high patient loads, nurses burning out, no time to take a lunch, and on top of all this, I keep reading about the difficulties of new graduate RN's not being able to find jobs. I was thinking it might even be more difficult for me to find a job since I also have no previous clinical experience. Now I'm starting to think that spending the $35,000 for the program, and losing at least a year's salary (I have to quit my job to do the program) could end up being a very bad decision. The main reasons I looked to switch careers to nursing were solid pay, job stability, it not being as boring as office jobs I've had, and the thought that helping people would be more fulfilling then crunching numbers. Could anyone give me some advice based on my situation? Am I reading too much into the online negativity on some threads? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
  2. I would hope they would understand that I have a business degree and I have a background in finance that would be beneficial in a position in healthcare management, where the main focus is making money. That's all. I'm not really talking about nursing leadership positions or being a director of nursing etc. I mean more of a financial management position within a healthcare organization. I'm sorry I didn't specify that in my original post. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I know all situations and each job is a little different, but I just wanted to get a general idea.
  3. You don't think employers might look at the fact I have a BSN and a 2nd bachelors degree in business management, instead of having the BSN and MBA? I know these 2nd degree BSN program are relatively new and more popular than ever now, so maybe employers would understand?
  4. Hello all, I currently have a bachelor in business administration, and am enrolled for an accelerated 2nd degree BSN program in 2015. I am curious about how much my bachelor in business administration would help me in the future (I would like to work as a floor nurse for at least several years first) if I wanted to get into healthcare management/administration positions at a hospital/nursing home? Would I likely have to get an MBA as well, or a Master's in Healthcare Management? Or would my bachelor in business be enough for most positions? I appreciate any input!
  5. They told you they aren't reviewing applications until August now?
  6. My GPA was about a 3.6 for my bachelors. I got mostly A's, with a few B's in the pre-reqs. I don't have much clinical experience (never worked as a CNA etc.). I still haven't heard anything.
  7. Is anyone still waiting to hear? I still haven't heard yet.
  8. I was denied to Waterbury. I'm curious if anybody else got denied anywhere.
  9. No actually rejected. I was surprised. My GPA was 3.4. I plan on applying again though, but this time I'm going to apply for the early admission so hopefully I will get in.
  10. Did anyone else hear back about being accepted/waitlisted/rejected?
  11. I actually got rejected and was not even waitlisted. Would anyone else who was waitlisted mind sharing what their GPA was for their bachelors degree? I'm wondering if that was my downfall.
  12. I'm not sure specifically about if they accept credits from colleges not on that list. But in my experience dealing with the requirements for the program, they are pretty flexible. I honestly think as long as it is an equivalent class, they will accept credits from just about any school.
  13. I'm not sure about anything anymore. But thanks, and good luck to you too. Maybe someone drops out and you can still get in this year.
  14. Did you guys get any emails? I still haven't heard anything.
  15. Yes it's a little ridiculous that some people heard 3 weeks ago!!! I understand they have more applications than they thought they would, but I'm not sure why it should take this long. People have life decisions to make, that can't be made without knowing if they are accepted to this program. I'm beginning to get pretty annoyed.
