  1. You are so welcome scross0613...we gotta stick together! I'm just glad that you found out like I did too late that the books are cheaper on Amazon. I agree that you need to get new books so you will have the codes. In later semesters, there might be classes where you don't need the codes, but I'm sure you will learn that as you go along. I'm just so excited for all of you, and I hope I get to see y'all grow in your nursing student careers. :)
  2. I wonder if you can go to the secretary for the book info. I say this, because this is where I went to get this info from my school and I was able to get the list. I do have some friends in nursing school at Calhoun, so I can also ask them. I'll let y'all know what I find out.
  3. Just some advice...I would try to get the book list and see if you can get your books cheaper on Amazon. You can also join Calhoun's previous nursing facebook pages and see if anyone wants to sell their books. I would make sure that they are the correct editions/titles/authors for your semester though.
  4. I'm in nursing school. I put in for Calhoun and UAH, but ultimately chose UAH. I want all to know that it is definitely stressful, but you have to keep things in perspective. You have to remember why you want this, to not give up, and that each day that you get through is one day closer to graduating. You can do it! I am apt to think that after you complete the first semester you are rather conditioned somewhat to the stress; not to say that you won't still be stressed in other semesters. The one thing that I can tell all of you is try to be as organized as you can, take good notes, and form study groups comprised of reliable people. You are going to need each other to make it through. Good luck and hold your head up high...YOU'RE GOING TO NURSING SCHOOL!
  5. lpalmeida, I felt the same way about my child who was only 8 months when I started school. I had some prereqs already completed from years before. I actually started out at my local CC (with the majority of classes online). When the time came, I decided to apply to both the ADN program (@ local CC) and the BSN program (@ the local University). I have to admit that despite the fact that I had wonderful teachers at my community college, I had a strong desire to get into the BSN program. I ended up being accepted to BOTH programs :), ultimately choosing the BSN program, which I start Spring 2014. I really believe that you will know what to do when the time comes, and only you know what will work best in your particular situation. I wish you the very best in all of your pursuits...I hope my story has helped you with your decision. :)
  6. I mean great point Kissesnhugs. And CONGRATULATIONS jchrisperdue!!!
  7. Congratulations!
  8. Cyndle, I am so happy for you and everyone else who made it in!!!! Hold your head up high...you're going to nursing school!! Kissesnhugs, thanks for the heads up! :)
  9. I got an acceptance letter also from Calhoun's ADN program!!! It actually came in a letter and was two pages. The Fall start people at Calhoun received an acceptance packet (I have friends that started Calhoun nursing school in Fall), so maybe they are changing this aspect of the process.
  10. I also love the positive encouraging words CarefulCare. I agree with your logic in taking notes and using color to bring attention to certain things. I would add to go over what you are studying and come back again later to go over it again. This indeed works, I know, because this is what I did, and I was just accepted to a very competitive BSN program :). You have to be serious and you have to want it and you have to stay focused and never let anyone else's attitude corrupt your own positivity. Remind yourself that you can do this; even perhaps looking into the mirror to say this. Let it become a part of who you are. You can do it!
  11. jchrisperdue, I am excited for you, too! It sounds like you have been working hard. I agree with you and I think that you can be rest assured that you will get into the program; however, I don't blame you one bit for being nervous. Let me tell you, seeing that packet is such wonderful feeling!! You will know exactly what I mean very soon. **21 days 'til, as kissesnhugs puts it, "mailbox madness"!!!**
  12. jrl905, I still think you got in, too. Be mindful that we have to turn in our responses by the 18th. Please let us know what happens. I'm on the edge of my seat!
  13. jporterlpn, No, I do not know anyone who has gone through the online LPN to RN mobility program. I'm sure like you said, it's an excellent program. Again, please let us know what happens. Future nursing applicants might see this, and perhaps your experience will help them through the process. Good luck jporterlpn!
  14. jporterlpn, I am not positive about the six weeks, but it seems to be that way for all nursing programs around here. I would call Calhoun, however, to get a definitive answer. There are plenty of people there willing to help you get an answer to your question(s). Good luck and let us know what happens!
  15. I would like to go to the Wednesday one (yes, I would love for us to go to the same one!!), because I think there will be a lot to do to get ready like CPR classes and shot records and financial stuff..... I feel the same way about worrying about the cost, but maybe we can meet up and solve these issues together (two heads are better than one I always say). Besides, there is a lot of help out there for student nurses. I am definitely turning in the paper for UAH. If you want to meet on campus, just let me know when. I can meet up anytime Monday-Friday between 8am to 12pm. I'm thinking the University Center is a good place to start, because that is where they do the shots and titers. Let me know what you think, and CONGRATULATIONS on getting in!! Now, I just hope I can get some sleep!
  16. Thank you kissesnhugs...I just went to my mailbox and got a thick letter that said in summary that I was ACCEPTED! Oh my gosh I'm so excited, too! :) Kissesnhugs, are you going to the Wednesday or Friday orientation?
  17. Hi at256, The applications for the RN mobility program were due the same time as the RN program, so I think it would be safe to say that they will be in the mail about 6 weeks after the due date. Therefore, I think they would start going out the week of November 11, 2013. I would give Calhoun a call, however, to make sure. Hope this helps! 18. Yes, it is kissesnhugs! You said it perfectly...."mailbox madness".
  19. You are indeed welcome jrl905. I think it's awesome that you made it to the waiting list at USA, and like you said, it's much better than getting denied. I think you have a wonderful chance making it into UAH. Packets 4 everyone!
  20. I'm still learning about this site, and I think there is only a limited time that a person can edit their post. I didn't know that either but I'm just now learning that, because I cannot edit any of my posts either. I think that is typical and I believe it is probably about an hour to edit (it might even extend to the entire day of the post), but don't quote me on that. It will be ok though, we are all learning here. I only knew it because I have been looking at this site for about 6 months. No big deal, they will edit it. You can actually report yourself and ask them to change it by clicking on the "!" in the left lower corner.
  21. Hey ya'll when reading other posts, I see that the admins for the site remove names of people that work for the schools in the nursing programs and put little notes people's posts...I would edit you know who's name before they see it.
  22. My goodness, now, I'm really nervous. I didn't get a call either, and I took the HESI test at the last minute too (found out about it last minute). I did not know that it was not mandatory to take before turning in our applications (thank you for sharing that...you learn something new everyday), but I think I did fine considering I was not able to study for it. I, also think it's a good sign that you got a call jrl905. I am hopeful for all of us. Please UAH, send us all packets!
  23. Cyndle, I called yesterday and talked to a really helpful lady (in retrospect I wish I had asked her name). She said, the first summer there are no nursing classes for Spring start nursing students. She said this is so people that have prerequisites to complete can do so in the Summer (although I'm thinking there are other reasons because the Fall start does not do this). The second Summer does have nursing classes. An interesting fact about this is regardless of which program (Calhoun or UAH) all of us here get into, we will all be graduating at the same time (Fall 2015). :)
  24. Ok, this is for all the Calhoun nursing school applicants. I just found out that Calhoun Community College is going to expand their dress code for the nursing program and allow a choice of the button down Landau top or the Landau pull-over scrub tops. This is not in writing yet, but they are supposedly sending out the letters reflecting this change soon. I am happy that they are doing this, because I personally abhor the button down scrub tops.
