Difficulty to deal with patient's family yet???
Does anyone have problem with patient's family yet? For the past two days, I think that's all I am dealing with. and the family are still not happy with me. One of my COPD patient went to the restroom, afterward, she was having problem with breathing, pulse ox was at 89%, I called the respiratory therapist, she received a treatment, and sats at 95%. I thought it was good, and no more problems. I went back in the room after 10 mins, patient was resting in bed without any discomfort, but the daughter was yelling at me to help her mom. Before i can even get to the vital machine, she already called rapid response, and screamed at me, and her mom's vital was actually stable, 92% on 4L O2. I tried to teach patient's family about COPD, and 89% is not a bad number, and COPD patient retain CO2..............They dont know anything about the disease process, and all they can do is complain about me, saying I am incompetent............ I thought the rapid response was not needed, and lack of knowledge makes nurses job even more difficult. we have to deal with the family, the patient, and the doctor.......Is Nursing ever going to get better????????

worked 2 months on new job, already hating it
I started this new job about 2 months ago, it's an afternoon shift, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. this hospital has many different shifts, many people working 12hours shift.I am new at this hospital, and I felt very stressed out already. Everyday when I start my day, it's a brand new assignment, people who worked in the morning always pick the easy patient, I never have chance to keep my patients from the day before. New admissions everyday, I am so tired all the time, and I don't even have time to eat. I don't know what to do anymore. I talked to my boss about this situation, she said I need to speak up when I need help, but I realize when I am busy, everyone is busy or unavailable. and not everyone willing to help you. I just don't think it's fair to always have the new nurse to get dumped on, and i feel like i am drowning!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate my job. I feel so hopeless, Is Nursing ever going to get better? and am I ever going to get faster at my job?

first year... no job...
truejewel82, Dont listen to the stupid interviewer, I still think it depends on the location. Most of the hospital will train you as much as you need, and they normally have a really good orientention. In Toledo, OH so hard to find a job, b/c nobody wants to leave this place. I am going to have consider moving somewhere else, I think lots of the other places are hiring, so keep your hopes up, and I know we are going to find the JOB!:)

A New RN, Quit Job after 5 Months
Hi, I_scream and ladyQT I feel so happy that I am not the only one. I quit my job after 6 months working on an oncology floor. My preceptor was not the nice person anyone wants to work with, I still kept my hopes up and thought I would be ok. But it turns out switching from days to nights and working under so much pressure everyday, it just burn me out. I am now starting look for a new job, I just had an interview today. I felt I did horrible, and this hospital seems worse than the one I worked before. God, I hope I didn't make a mistake by quitting that job...........

I agree. I am also from toledo, OH. I guess there are too many nursing school here, its very difficult to find a job. most of places wants nurses with more experience, but how can we have experience if we cant find a job.
