NOOO! I just moved here to JAX area from S. Carolina and over the last 6 years it has gotten VERY difficult to find a nursing job there. I was hoping it would be better here in a bigger metro area, but the comments I'm seeing are not encouraging. I've been a nurse for over 14 years and it used to be if you were breathing and had a license- you had a job. The problem is that with the overload of new nurses desperate for jobs, the working conditions have gone down the tubes. The last job I had was off the charts stressful- high patient to nurse ratio (8:1), getting low census for half my shifts (no pay on call status so they could overload the working nurses and then call you in), low pay, not getting weekends off even when you have PTO time. I was only allowed to orientate 2 1/2 weeks because I was "experienced" and never felt comfortable, plus I was only supposed to be part time but they scheduled me 3 days in a row, 12 hour shifts on my weekend. When I finally had enough, the manager basically told me not to let the door hit me on my way out because there was a line of replacements. What has nursing come to?!
