  1. I definitely deserved harsh consequences but I could not say that I would do the same thing to my daughter (have her arrested) especially because of what an impact it made on my future, although one of the biggest reasons my mother had me arrested was because I did damage to her vehicle that night by crashing it into a fence. So me getting arrested was the only way the damage wouldn't have to come out of her pocket... along with the medicine I took. To this day, my mother doesn't even truly understand how all of those charges have and are impacting my life... she seems to think that just because it was juvenile it shouldn't matter but it does, even when expunged I'm hearing and espeically to specific agency's and the boards.
  2. I won't be starting school again until January; until then, if I get this pharm. tech. job & pass the background check, I'll be training with them so I can become registered by the board of pharmacy. I have 6 months to register with the BOP upon getting hired, which would be before I applied to the BON. So I would think that if the BON approved me, that the BON would also. I didn't think that one could apply to the BON until completion of nursing school though. How would that work?
  3. Right now I'm actually in the process of getting a job as a pharmacy technician. I wonder whether the charges will still show up on my expunged record or not when I do the background check. If so I hope that they wouldn't let that effect me getting hired.. the manager was super nice and liked me a lot. I've just been relying on God and praying for his will, and it looks like this is his will! So I think that it will be ok. If not, then I know I need to take a different path. Thank you for your advice though, the BON does require you to disclose juvenile records so I will provide the info. upon request.
  4. I think I have figured it out! Atleast for now, I think I am on the right track and only time will tell whether I will be able to handle it or not. I've been putting this in prayer, and if it is God's will he will make a way is what I believe. I'm about to get hired at that publix pharmacy I mentioned in one of the posts, they're willing to train me to work as a tech. So I'm thinking that this will definitely be good experience for the pharmaceutical aspect of the job... they may see my background and that could be a potential issue but like I said if God's will he shall continue to make it happen. Thanks for all of the informative advice everyone!
  5. My expungement will be completely approved and over with on the 17th of next month so I'd say I'm pretty sure :-)
  6. As a psychiatric nurse I am aware that you can. I know that you cannot prescribe as a registered nurse.
  7. Thank you so much for the advice, this seems very practical and like a good idea. My biggest concern right now is being able to handle classes, work, tutoring and my children all at once.. I would some how have to figure all of that out, anywho, I wish you sucess as well!
  8. Lol, I haven't forgotten but thanks. I would be willing to do all of that, I think that just learning how too would be rewarding. I actually live in Florida, it definitely seems difficult to get any type of work without experience... I did however have a pharmacy manager who wanted to hire me just by going down to the store to fill out an application (I looked really good and dressed super nice) except I don't have experience so I didn't apply for pharm. I do also have friends and relatives who are nurses or work in health care so I'm sure if I was desperate for a job one of them would be able to help... but ultimately, in my opinion if a job is meant for you, you're going to get it.
  9. One thing I don't like is how so many people feel the need to compete with one another, not just in this profession, but everywhere. I believe that everyone should just be the best and do the best that they can, and if a particular job is meant for you, then you will get it. I'm interested in psychiatric nursing because I would like to help people and especially people who are going through trauma or have been brought up with it like I myself and people I'm close too have. I'm a recent survivor of domestic violence and I would really like to help others who have been effected by it and other things as well, which is why I chose to change my major from journalism to psychology... but seeing how I could do the same thing within nursing & better yet be able to prescribe treatment, I believe that I could be successful in it. I was just concerned about all of the hard math/science it takes.. and debating on whether to just stick with psychology or pursue nursing. I think nursing would be the smarter option, and I'm already headed in that direction with the CNA route. Thank you all for your opinions!
  10. I'm horrible at math, excellent at writing, however I am very passionate about mental health and helping others to overcome mental illness... which is why I am considering becoming a Psychiatric nurse. Not to mention all of the demand and opportunities for nurses overall. Only I am concerned whether or not this degree will be too hard to accomplish because I'm terrible at math, and I also have a juvenile record which will make it not impossible but hard for me to obtain licensure I believe. I also have two children which is why I need a stable career with a bright outlook, but that could also potentially be a concern because of the harsh schedule that is required of nurses. How easy would it be to find a job that would allow me to have a set schedule (not be on-call) and where are some places that would be applicable for this? Overall, does working as a psychiatric nurse seem like it would be worth all of the effort I would be having to put in to this career? I'm a very determined person and would not have a problem staying motivated, especially for becoming a psych nurse but will I be able to work in this feild and have potential to become successful is what I'm ultimately asking?
  11. I was originally planning on going to school to become a journalist because I'm an excellent writer and terrible at math, but that changed to psychology, which has recently changed to nursing. I'm very intrigued with how the human mind works and would like to help people overcome mental illness, so now I am thinking about going to school to become a psychiatric nurse. I'm choosing nursing over psychology now because first off, there are way more opportunities in nursing especially with our economy the way that it is & I need a stable career as I have two children. Also, I've already taken a CNA course but have not applied for licensure yet because I have a juvenile record. However, I am in the process of getting charges expunged and will most likely apply to the board when that finishes (although I am aware that I will still have to inform them). But, because of all of that and the fact that I have two children and am not good at math, I'm not 100% positive this is the way to go, but like I said I'm very interested in Psychiatric Nursing. I'm very determined though and anything I choose to do I will work extremely hard in order to achieve it.
