Chamberlain University Nursing Informatics
Hi Everyone, Sorry I didn't get a notification of any messages. I should finish my MSN-Informatics with Chamberlain at the end of the year. I just started my practicum. In regards to credit hour charges, they do post them. It's standard, I am an alumni and veteran so I pay $550/credit. Regular tuition is $650. https://www.chamberlain.edu/admissions/tuition-expenses Preceptor was almost impossible to find unless you are already in the business. For this reason, they have created a Second Life practicum. The cool thing is that my preceptor is Dr. Hebda who has written books on the field and is probably one of the first to specialize or formalize this specialty. I have good access to her imo. The practicum is project based and they want it to have a national impact. For example, I am doing usability testing on a national patient portal. We have meetings on WebEx and Second Life. They encourage collaboration with other students. I like it so far. Starting the practicum after a year of taking a break due to cross country move and my attempts of finding a local preceptor failed. They offered me Second Life at that point. I am actively learning all the parts of a project execution. I feel like I understand more of what informatics is like. I am not working in the field so I am by no means an expert. Could the program be better in brick and mortar school? Sure, but military life makes a 2 year local commitment hard for me personally so I chose an online school. Program objectives are clear. Assignments have very detailed rubric so I am not wondering what is needed to get a good grade. If you think another program is better for you, go for it. I would not say that the program itself is disorganized or bad. These are my personal opinions and I respect the opinions of others. I hope this helps.

I don't have a copy of the first syllabus as of now. I recently joined the above mentioned groups. I am chosen to stay with Chamberlain. I visited South University and didn't feel as comfortable as with Chamberlain. As soon as I have it, I will contact the people on this post that requested it. Thanks!

athomas2244, Could you send me the syllabus for the first course Foundations? If so, feel free to send me any additional docs you may have that may help. I am aware that different instructors may have different syllabus but it will help give me an idea of what to get ready for. Please know that I would not use anything you send me to plagiarize. This is only to give me an understanding of what is expected. [email protected] Thanks!

ShelbySmiley, The two accreditations one would want with a nursing degree are: Regional accreditation and Program Accreditation (CCNE or NLN). Chamberlains has both regional accreditation and CCNE program accreditation. However the following is listed on their website (and this is more to do with state requirements): "At this time, Chamberlain College of Nursing cannot accept inquiries from the states of Washington D.C., Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, or Washington for the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program." Found at the bottom of this page: Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-FNP Chamberlain College I would imagine that if you lived in any of the above listed states, I would stay away from the program. Best of Luck!

wizski, That's horrible that you couldn't understand the teacher! I encountered this problem once before in my life and it did make learning very difficult. I guess that is a blessing from online learning that language is written black and white. I was considering South University but I read in other blogs that the classes don't really have syllabus. I could see not having a syllabus as potentially misunderstanding class requirements and assignments which could easily be a communication error. For this reason, my clear choice was Chamberlain's FNP program. I did my bachelor's with them and almost all assignments requirements were clearly outlined. I hope and pray that this continuous on to the Master's program. Best of luck wizski!
