  1. What do you do when you work in a LTC and are accused of neglecting a resident with chest pain. What do you do when although an STNA verified that the resident in question did not complain of chest pain, wrote a statement stating the same. You are allowed to continue to care for the resident in question for several days. Then 3 hours into the shift, the RN shift supervisor hands you a paper stating that after the shift you will be suspended for 3 days for not treating chest pain. You offer to take a lie detector test and are refused. You do not sign the suspension notice, writing on the slip that the accusation was false. That morning when the DON comes in, you are informed that the resident also said that her chest pain was ignored. She laughs at you stating that although you had a witness, you are suspended. "The resident is always right". You resign because you think, if they lied about this, what else would they do. I tell you all this to help you avoid what happened next. I was essentially blackballed in the county where I worked. All my future hopes of employment as an LPN are over. Although you did nothing wrong.... My advice is don't resign when this happens. Get an attorney and fight. I wish that I had been given this advice.
