APriest, thanks for your PM. First, unfortunately when calling they don't tell you your spot on the alternate list. I literally bugged them every other week asking questions if there was anything else I could do to either get ready if I was chosen or to reapply and make myself a better candidate. I doubt it helped any that I was showing interest in the program or keeping my name fresh in their mind but I'm sure it didn't hurt either. I believe I was one of the first alternates chosen though and then there were several more selected after me, including the ones days before class started. I wouldn't get too hung up on GPA as a determinant of your spot. I had a 3.27 cum (higher prereqs and science averages) volunteer experience, and good LOR. From what the program director told me, there's sometimes a few people don't send back their letters of intent and then they'll pick from the alternate list. Last semester, everyone send back the letters, but they also told me it's very normal for people to decline and drop out once people start working through financial aid 1-2 months before classes start. Not sure if this is any help but don't despair.
