  1. I have been both a floor nurse and now a ER nurse..and have had the opportunity to experience the challenges that come with both and the most important thing I've learned is the importance of compromising. The floor is right to be frustrated when the ER nurse demands to take report right that second when the floor nurse is in an isolation room and giving medication then calls back one minute later. If that happens and I have a pretty stable patient ..no problem..il say call me back in 10 minutes ..but the times I get frustrated is when I call back to give report for the 3rd time and it is another "can I call you back" and that's because I have my charge nurse grilling me on why the patient is still here. OR when I have alerted the doc about a lab value that they have decided not to correct in the ED..I have done my part in that matter and report still needs to be taken. I respect floor nursing so much ..it can definitely be tough.
  2. I am glad I came by your post this evening...I am a fairly new ER nurse and am disappointed in how some MDs treat nurses in general.for example, I was using the computer I was logged into and began to sit down to chart and a hospitalist came up to me and said nope this one is mine in a rude tone. Now I understand that he has to put orders in and what not but the WAY he said it ..like he was entitled for me to give up my seat no matter what I was doing.. was very disrespectful . This is not the first time an instance such as this has occurred. It feels as if the nurses must always try to accommodate the docs no matter what the situation and administration almost always backs this behavior up. I feel that this is disrespectful to the nursing profession. MDs no doubt have an important role in health care ..but so do we.
  3. Its not what you know..its who you know..finally have come to this conclusion. Graduated in August 2012 with a BSN from an excellent school and nursing program..still am without a job unfortunately. It is hard to remain positive while my fellow peers, who have family at the facilities they apply at ,obtain positions so easily when iam working so diligently on trying to get a position. And believe me I am not being picky! Just wish all my volunteering, networking would get me somewhere. But iam going to try to have a positive outlook in the meantime :)
