  1. Hi! I just found out I got accepted into GW Post Master's PMHNP program. I am also waiting to hear back from JHU, I had an interview with them in December. I wanted to see which one you ended up doing and how you like it! Thank you so much!
  2. Hi, I am an Adult-Geri NP in Illinois (graduated 2015). I do have psych background/experience as well. Recently a psychiatrist asked me if I would be interested to work for him part-time and see patients for follow-up visits in nursing homes. He mentioned something about seeing 4 patients an hour so 15 min visits... And said hourly rate was about $60. To me that comes up to $15/patient, which I think is very little. A few other NPs suggested I ask for 70/30 of $85-100/hr. No benefits but would ask for license, DEA, CE, uniforms etc. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!!
  3. Hi all! I recently found my first dream job as an NP at a private specialty clinic. The MD said at the interview they would train me for at least 3 months. He came across as a nice guy at the interview. When I started I though all of his staff was top notch. My second day at the job, he screamed and cursed at all of the staff because he thought they weren't fast enough. This week I had a question about refilling medications in their EMR system for a patient who was waiting for them after his visit with MD and asked his resident who is supposed to be training me too. I don't know why, the MD saw us talking and lost it. He screamed at us, in front if his staff, calling us all sorts of names (yes, profanities like "****" etc) and said we should be running and checking on patients (but he had only one waiting in the room and was going to see another). He said "you either work here or you don't" we were both silent because he was so upset. He later said I should not take it personally and that his patients are his priority and that everybody needs to get more organized. It was my third week there so everything was still new to me but I thought I was doing a diligent work. I don't think talking to him would help. He seems like someone who screams and then cools off and is a pretty nice guy. I hate to think about looking for another job right now. And if I did - what would I even tell them about my current job? Would love to hear everybody's thoughts.
  4. Thank you! A great idea and I will ask them if I could do that. It seems that it will be cheaper and better for me.
  5. Thank you for your respond! Did you have to purchase your tail coverage from your employer's malpractice insurance or did they let you get one elsewhere? I will be working in the dermatology clinic and performing some derm procedures so I am nervous the tail coverage might be very expansive. I asked to get at least an approximate number and am waiting to hear back. Do you think it would make sense to purchase my own malpractice insurance instead? thanks!
  6. Hi! I am a new APN. I finally found what I think is a great job fit. I am happy with my employment contract but it does require me to purchase tail coverage in case I leave. How much is it generally? I guess I am trying to at least get some sort of idea of how much it could be. Thanks!
  7. Thank you, all. I guess what I am trying to ask is - with the muscle twitching and pain she had, is she at risk of a serious complication? I used the smallest needle we had for IM injection. I read that radial and axillary nerve damage from IM injection can happen.
  8. Hi all, I took a year off from nursing when I had my daughter last year. I recently got a job at the clinic. We are now giving flu shots as deltoid IM injections. I felyt that I needed to refresh my knowledge on how to do them a bit so I reviewed online materials and watched some videos and had someone watch me do it on a few patients before I started giving them on my own and everything was fine up till today. I had a patient who had a very tight sweater but did not want to take it off and pushed it all the way up her shoulder. I gave her flu shot and then she screamed "ouch" and I could see a muscle twitch after I aspired an injected the medication. She had tear on her face and looked in a lot of pain. I felt terrible. I think I got her axillary nerve. Of course, I apologized to her but now I am home and freaking out. I thought my technique was correct but apparently not. Here are two issues. 1. I am hoping and praying she will be ok as I worry about her and love my new job and don't want to loose it. What are the chances that this will lead to a serious nerve injury and what are the chances it will just resolve quickly? 2. Does anyone know any good sources to check for deltoid IM injections? Any tips or advice?
  9. Hi everyone! I am new to this website! I have my BSN in nursing and 4 years of work experience as an RN as well as a few years of work experience as a Medical Assistant prior to nursing school. I haven't been working for a year now because I have a baby and am doing graduate school (NP). I decided to start working a few hours a week because I have a relatively easy semester in the fall. I just got an interview for a corporate RN position to do flu shots. I am wondering how much would be the reasonable salary for such a job? Is $30-50/hr too much (considering the commute and gas)? Thanks!!!
