TPAPN = prison
I'm not sure why they made me go to TPAPN. I had no idea it would be like this. I have made huge progress in my addiction. In the beginning when I talked to TPAPN they said that my restrictions would not be as severe as this. And said that It would be a case by case basis. I applaud everyone that has gone through this and came out on top. All I can do is buckle up its going to be a bumpy ride.

TPAPN = prison
Ok. So I got my handbook and forms in the mail from TPAPN. And all I can say is wow. I have been clean and sober for 4 years..I went to treatment years before applying for nursing school and told them about it because I thought it was the right thing to do. . And can't find a job because of my restrictions and my background. I almost wish the BON would have never agreed for me to get my license. There is a huge book on medications and household products that I can't use. It just seems very overwhelming. I won't have a problem passing the drug tests. I just feel like they are not here to help you but want you to fail. How have you all done it? I feel like I'm in prison right now.

Reality of my past is setting in.......
Thank you for your reply. I was actually thinking about that particular meeting for networking.. It was just a thought. LTC would be good. I also heard dialysis would be a good place to start I'm just not sure if they hire LPN's

Reality of my past is setting in.......
Here is my situation! 10 years ago i committed a felony, (Not drug related, not a physical crime) Due in part to my drug addiction. In 2009 I admitted myself to a treatment center, and have been clean and sober ever since. (almost 4 years) I petitioned the board of Nursing (Texas) submitted treatment information, and they in turn deemed me fit to go to nursing school. I have recently graduated from school and passed my LPN boards. Part of the stipulations with getting my license is that I have to register with TPAPN. I have already applied for a couple of jobs in the Dallas area, only to be turned down. Either for the criminal history, or for TPAPN. I am wondering if I am even going to find a job. Before you all say, well applying at only a couple of jobs does not equal defeat, i live in San Anotonio and I am relocating to the Dallas area. The true job search will begin in August after im settled in. Can anyone give me any advice as to where to begin? Any AA/NA specific meetings for health care professionals in the Dallas area? I have alot against me , and I know its going to be hard. But I am a fighter, and will not give up. Any advice please??????

Help!!! New to nursing / prior felony / TPAPN
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I am determined. I chose Nursing because that what I have always wanted to do. Just because I have a history does not make me a bad person, and does not mean that I do not have what it takes to be an awesome nurse. I have considered addiction nursing, and will check into that. Thank you again
