I need to ven't about my job!
After reading your post it made me feel better. I will try the helpful tips that you have mentioned above. It's just frustrating when these residents get in thier moods. Thanks!:wink2:

I need to ven't about my job!
I'am currently a nursing student. I have my caregiver certifiaction and my CNA. I work at a retirement home, taking care of elderly. Been there for three months. While working there I've noticed we have alot of RUDE residents. And I mean they can be DOWN RIGHT RUDE!! To give you an example I was helping a resident get to her bed. I needed her wheelchair alittle closer so I can just transfer her from the wheelchair to the bed. Well she stated she thought we were to close and began to back up, I tell her I can't transfer that way and she needs to put the chair back where it was. She yells YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE AND IT'S NOT GONNA WORK! JUST MOVE THE D*** CHAIR THEN! I don't say anything to her, and finish what I'am suppose to do. After I get her into bed I tell her I'm sorry if I sounded like I had an attitude. Another lady that I deal with is rude also and sometimes can become violent. Anything you don't do right she constantly screams at you. Onetime she said I did not pick her up right and shoved me. Another time she wen't to hit me with her hand. I'm ready to quit and start looking for a new job.

I was exposed to blood.
I'm 23, and I work at a retirement home. Yesterday, I had a woman that had a bloody nose and she was bleeding all over herself. I quickly put on my gloves to help stop the bleeding. She also had a ice pack in her hand which she put on her nose. Well anyway, somone was calling me on the radio. Instead of answering it with a bloody glove I removed it to answer (this is where I screwed up). After I was done talking on the radio she dropped her ice pack, i wen't to pick it up with the ungloved hand (dumb reaction). Handed it to her, and then I realized what I done. I turned over my hand, and there was blood on the top of my finger tips. I quickly wen't over to the sink and washed my hands. I have no cuts or open sores on that hand. My hands were kinda dry from washing my hands all day. My thumb had started to peel alittle. Should I still get tested? This resident has a heart condition and she sometimes has trouble breathing. That is the only thing that is listed that she has. Although, the residents there are not required to tell us if they have aids or hepatitis.

OH MY GOD I gave the wrong pill!!
Thanks for the replys! I feel so stupid though! And it is rather embarrassing! This is my first mistake though so I should learn from it and try to get passed it. I thought the nurse would've chewed me out but she didn't. She just told me to pay attention to the names and be more careful the next time. If it happens again it results in a write up at work. But thanks again.
