  1. If I remember correctly the books came in 2-3 bundles. At the store I paid $400 for the books, the lab kit and the second kid (sharpies for 2nd semester). If you need individual prices I can dig into my file and find the receipt. But I'm sure you still can get the books, new and with codes for the electronic version, cheaper online.
  2. ScarletJones, That's correct. They'll give you 10 minutes after each hour in lecture & 1 hour lunch break from 11:30 to 12:30. Clinicals at the campus is flexible with breaks since you all will be up and practicing skills, etc.. but still get 1 hour lunch break. First 4-5 weeks is 8 am to 4 pm (usually you're done around 3), but at the hospital is 6:45 to 12:00 and then you all go for lunch and have you post conference after lunch and go home, usually around 2:00.
  3. ScarletJones, No, you only wear scrubs during clinicals at hospital, not at campus!
  4. ababs, You pay semester by semester. You'll get the approximate cost for each semester in your package!
  5. Jupiterxo, I bought the "Dickies" white pants, super soft and comfortable. You can buy any other brand. Almost nobody bought the pants from the college store. As to the shoes, we all got a pair of white sneakers. The nursing shoes are not very comfortable besides most of them are not closed on the back which is not acceptable to school. Since you are identified by your scrub, you cannot put a jacket on top but you can get one of those simple white long sleeves stretch blouses and wear it under your top, if you're cold. Some students got a good one from JCP. White undies are better. Don't rush, you'll not need all these for the first 4-5 weeks. They will tell you early enough during the lab at campus.
  6. MamaBerry, Master??? LOL Congratulations! You'll be really busy, LPN is not so easy! Emailing the package is new, first time. For the Spring we got it still be post. They'll start emailing after receiving your confirmation of accepting the seat. It took 1-2 weeks for the mail, but since it is emailed now, might not take that long. Good luck!
  7. It has nothing to with the campus you dropped your application (I dropped mine at spring hill but go to west campus). If you go through the package (which you'll receive within the next 1-2 weeks) you can see which campus you're assigned to. But that is not written in stone. If you need to change the campus for any reason, you can do so at the orientation.
  8. regular RN, ADN and generic RN are all the same!
  9. Yaaaay... Congratulations! I had no doubts that you'll get in!!!
  10. Congratulation!
  11. I do not think the teachers will have any objection to recording, it's just nobody did. I'm taking the 6-week ethics at north campus with Jeremy Smith, he is very funny, we have a lot of fun in his class!
  12. LOL....re you learning Persian now??!! I'm fine, just came back from a microbiology test & have to get ready to go north campus for ethics! Hope you're having a nice day too, I know everybody is anxious here, I'm sure you'll get your letter next week and we can have our coffee...lol....I'm thinking you need to add the cake to that coffee to celebrate!
  13. There is no special requirements as to laptop or ipad. Nothing to be done online during the lecture hours or clinical hours. As long as you can get on canvas at home, take your online tests and submit results, you'll be fine. For the lecture you either can print the powerpoint and make notes during the lecture or bring a laptop or ipad to the class and type your notes directly. I have not seen anybody recording the lecture, you'll realize it's not necessary.
  14. The acceptance letter will actually be mailed in small size, it's only two pages, a covering letter with congratulations and the second page is just a paragraph confirming you actually accept the seat. You'll have to sign the second page and return/drop at any campus within a few days (maybe a week). In the covering letter they tell you when to expect the package.
  15. Thank you!
  16. ScarletJones, Well, my husband is the reason for my career change. We were spending our vacation (coming from Russia), June 2011, in our home in Hernando Beach and he did not feel very well. After a visit to neurologist we found out he had a large brain tumor and I from the doctor I drove him straight to Tampa General and the next day they operated on him, actually it was exactly today 3 years ago! To cut the story short, we stayed here and I was taking care of him until he passed away in Sep. 2012. Actually starting at PHSC 6 months after that, was supposed to be just a "get-out-of-house" for me, since I had absolutely no family or friends here. I guess you never know what life throws at you!
  17. By the way we used the 8th edition of P&P. The whole set of books and lab kids cost about 400 at the college store. It includes two lab kids: one is the usual one you need to practice skills at the campus (wound dressing, catheter, etc..) which you get with your books. But you also pay for the 2nd one which includes all the "sharpies" and you do not get it for safety reasons, they keep it for you and you get to use it as of 2nd semester, I don't know how that works exactly until Fall. I went to the store to see if I can get my books for Fall, they'll not have them until late July. Based on the estimates we got, the 2nd semester books cost 530 at the store. But I can get them all for 350 (or less) on Ebay or Amazon. You might wanna check that too. The only thing is that some of the books come with a code access to the electronic version which comes only with the new ones not the used ones (even those are cheaper online too).
  18. ScarletJones, After you get in, try to get the NCLEX app, very interesting! I am also planning to take Spanish next summer! I'll have no other classes, will finish the AA this year and have taken all the co-reqs of RN. To your question as to where I come from: I am from Iran, but before ending up here in FL 2.5 years ago, I travelled a lot together with my husband since we both were freelance engineers working for the European companies building large industrial plants in different countries. I've been to almost 40 countries. Persian is my first language, German is 2nd and English is 3rd. I understand some Arabic and a little Russian. After you get your acceptance, we'll go for coffee!
  19. WOW, everyone is online and excited! Hi everyone, specially ScarletJones! I was busy on the weekend getting ready for micro test and did not see your "Hello" couple of pages back! I had to laugh when I saw the title you gave me: trusty advisor..lol I'm just trying to share my experience that might help the new students. I know you're all excited, but I think the letters will not be out before next week. The deadline was June 2nd and usually it takes 1-2 weeks for the administration to go through all the applications, sort them out and get them ready for the committee meeting. That's why those who did not qualify got the letter of rejection. When the applications are ready then the committee will decide when to meet and it takes a few days after the meeting to prepare and actually send out the letters. I hate to say that, but I do not believe you get the letters this week. maybe towards the end of next week. I'm sure you all will get in, and then like me, after the first semester you'll ask yourself why you were so excited for getting in since you'll feel that was the easiest part, lol Today I found out that couple of students did not pass the "Fundamentals" at west campus! I suggest when you get in, try to get the books and start reading because it's a lot of reading and if you get familiar with the subjects, you'll probably do better during the semester. However do not read the whole Perry & Potter book, I can tell you what chapters you'll need to read. let me know if you need any info. I wish we could get together for a coffee and get to know each other! I'm excited for you! Good luck everyone!
  20. ScarletJones, A nice pair of white sneakers are the best and very comfortable. You cannot have the nursing shoes which are closed in front but not really closed on the back! They're gonna tell you that during the first few weeks of lab at campus. But you have enough time for that, your clinicals probably start around October 1st.
  21. I'll take statistics in Fall (at SH campus)...are you taking it online or on campus? I hope it has less homework than college algebra! My algebra teacher told me that students usually do better in statistics than algebra, so I'm hoping it's easier!
  22. ScarletJones & theAFwife, Finally, you two got it...lol.....I blame it on the anxiety, I know how you feel right now, hopefully in a week or so you have the letters! But looking at your gpa and teas, you both have nothing to worry about. Plan the celebration!!! lol
  23. theAwife, Once in a while you'll find a cheap one that works much better than the expensive ones, not always. For example, at oak Hill hospital they have the very cheap yellow ones which you can take from the supply room, assemble it (comes in 4-5 pieces) and are used for the patients who have infections and you should not use your personal one. I can tell you those were the best ones, and everyone in the group had the same opinion. I too have the Littman Master Cardiology (purple, $180) which is very good. But to be honest, after going to the hospital for couple of weeks most of us did not bring the good ones to clinicals anymore, since at the end of the day we all had to get a purple-top and wipe it clean (and still worry about the germs!). Once you are in the environment you don't wanna bring home anything you use over there, once you are a nurse you can leave it in the locker though. So those of us who had an expensive one ended up getting/using one from the supply room! (use ours for the lab at campus and at home only).
  24. ScarletJones, I'm not sure. I assume as long as you maintain the high gpa, you'll be a member, regardless what school you're at. But you better check that with the PHSC administration. Just a tip: If you're buying a stethoscope, you better get the one with a single tube. Everybody is gonna tell you that there is no difference between single & double tube, but according to all the students who had the double-tube one, during auscultation they were irritated since the could hear the two tubes rubbing!!
  25. ScarletJones, I am a member of PTK since last year. As you mentioned it looks good on your resume, but also you get the PTK seal on your degree which is very good if you plan to transfer and continue your education. Neither the voluntary work of PTK nor the meetings are mandatory. I participated only in the first meeting after I joined, that's it. You'll remain a member as long as your GPA is over 3.2 each semester. However if it drops below 3.2 for one semester you need to bring it up the next semester (only once). If you do not or if it happens again, you're out. They also offer scholarships which I never looked into. They'll help if you need to transfer to another collage or university. I also received the invitation for the American Psychology and school ambassador, but I'm not going to join, once you get into the program you'll have no time for extracurricular activities, specially if you have children or work full-time. The nursing uniform is simple, for girls: it has two big pocket on both sides, V-neck, and two color ribbons on the sleeves which is black & yellow for RN (green & yellow for LPN). They ask you to buy two, I bought only one and probably is gonna last until I finish, lol You need to buy two RN patches which goes on the chest (upper left) for the first year and on the sleeve for the second year!
