I am a CNA with two years of nursing home experience. I worked in my first nursing home for the whole 2 years. I have recently moved to attend nursing school and I had to leave the job and residents I loved. I had three job interviews and accepted one in a smaller nursing home because it seemed much homier. After working there for a little more than a week I already want to quit. My previous job was a revolving door for CNAs but I was able to stay but this place is terrible and unsafe. I only got three days of training which was inconsistent. The beds don't have side rails and they are hard to raise. They don't keep bed cards to know information about the residents. The building is oppressively hot, the rooms are much too over crowded (one room had four residents in it!) and most rooms don't have bathrooms. On my third day I even saw another CNA HIT a resident! This was unbelievable to me especially so soon after starting. I reported the aid and Saturday will be my first day back after doing so and I am dreading it. I have another interview on Monday which seems much more like my old job. I am seriously considering calling in and quitting before my shift. I don't want to risk not getting hired at my interview but I do think I have a good chance at getting the job. I might also be able to contact one of my other job offers and accept one of those. Am I justified in hating this place and quitting before my next shift? I have no intention of using them on my resume or for a reference.
