6 weeks notice?? Are you kidding me....I'd be so outta there their heads would spin and next a call to the BON and anyone else I could thing of....Dangerous for patients and staff!!!!

Just get through nursing school first...then get to a level I trauma teaching hospital preferably to an ICU...stick with that for 5 years or so, get your CCRN and then the skies the limit after that....I second what NedRN said....BSN not necessary for travel, they care way more about experience that what degree you hold and you're gonna want all the certs you can get...Good luck :)

Get a CA license and get out of TX...pay there is LOW!!! Might want to look into rapid response companies...Fastaff, ACES :) I also have TX and will only go to Austin simply because it's awesome and I have a place to stay there....it's the only place I'd sacrifice pay....it's such a killer town, totally worth it :)

I work ICU...No matter which area you work in, it's ALWAYS best to ASSESS!!!! Anytime you pick up a new patient, that is NEW to YOU...you need to give them the 'once over'....CYA, my friend!!!! I have also floated to various and sundry areas and every time I get my new peeps, no matter for how long, I assess them. You never know what you might find that the other nurse missed or something new....I would not care what the 'policy' is....I just do it :) Hope that helps!!!
