  1. I bought a $20 blood pressure cuff off of Amazon and it works perfectly fine. No need to splurge there. as far as scrubs go, if you've never worn them I'd try them on first. I wear a size medium for tops but in scrubs I'm a small. I'm 5'6 and the small pants are pretty long on me. They run large in my opinion but all scrubs seem too.
  2. Just wanted to add! I know the handbook says you'll need peds diaphragm but you can hold off on that for now. You won't be doing peds until your second semester.
  3. Congrats everyone! I'm preparing to finish my first semester of nursing school at JJC and may be able to answer some of your questions! As far as stethoscopes go, I highly recommend purchasing a fairly decent one right off the bat. I know several girls that opted for the cheap ones the book store sells (the ones that come in a kit) and ended up having to purchase different ones because they couldn't hear lung sounds/heart sounds. Personally, I went with a Littmann Classic II SE and had it engraved. I haven't heard of any issues with stealing but I'd definitely keep your stethoscope/BP cuff/etc on your persons at all time, especially during clinical. As far as shoes go, they have to be all white leather. They cannot be open-back but they don't need laces. Several girls in my clinical group have shoes I'd consider clogs and they're totally acceptable. I also wouldn't purchase cheap shoes as you'll be on your feet for seven hours straight during clinicals. No one's asked yet but I'm sure it'll come up: GO WITH A ROLLING BACKPACK. I told myself I'd never do it but they're worth it. The books get heavy (unless you go for online-only) and almost everyone has rolling backpacks so you won't stand out. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
  4. student4u2-- I've never personally used a ZUCA bag but have heard great things about them. I considered getting one but ended up receiving an OGIO for Christmas (Phantom Wheeled Roller Travel Luggage Bag from OGIO). It has a ton of room and love that it has a cooler-type section for food and a sleeve for my iPad or laptop. I'm beyond anxious for classes! I thought they were supposed to open up on Canvas a week prior to the first day but nothing's changed. I just want to read over the syllabi and finish getting all my school supplies.
  5. I finally finished all my paperwork, shots, tests, etc. and I've almost finished buying all my gear. I had a question about shoes, maybe someone here can help me. Would these be acceptable? The Dansko White Blue Smooth Leather from the Elise collection. I want to buy my shoes ASAP so I can break them in. They also come with a smooth top The Dansko White Smooth Leather from the Elise collection. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know. I have no idea where to begin when it comes to shoes.
  6. YES! I was the third person in my group to order scrubs (thankfully) but it took about 20+ minutes to get through the two people in front of me. They were so unorganized and unprepared, I couldn't believe it. It was definitely a lot of information. I wish they'd made a check-list! I want to get everything done ASAP. I've already gotten my physical and a few shots. My PCP did the first TB test but I'm a little concerned about whether or not St. Joe's will "accept" it; they made it seem like they're particular about where you have it done. Honestly, I don't know if I want to get it done at the health department... My class schedule is the following, by the way: Monday: Nurse 150 theory 8-9:50 and Nurse 140 10-11:50 Tuesday: Nurse 150 clinical 7-1 Thursday: Nurse 150 clinical topics 8-10 Friday: Nurse 150 theory 8-9:50 and Nurse 140 10-11:50
  7. Soma is a controlled substance too. At the place I work, we do oral fluid panels that DO test for Soma. I would bring a list of all your medications, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
  8. where'd you find out what books we need? I tried looking under the search/register section and the books said "TBD" Does anyone know if we should bring anyone with us for the workshop? This is kind of embarrassing but my mom is interested in going. Maybe I should email someone?
  9. They're so worth the price. They're the best scrubs I've owned! I wash them and hang to dry and haven't noticed any shrinkage or fading!
  10. Nevermind! I just checked again and I got the verification email! Can't wait to meet you all! I'm so anxious for November!
  11. I confirmed my spot and signed up for session 1! has anyone gotten their verification email from Paul? I haven't and I want to make sure it's not just me!
  12. I made it into days! Congrats everyone! I am so excited :-))))
  13. KCAmbition: It should be on your jjc email, not you actual email address!
  14. Ah thank god round one is over (even though that's the easiest part!) Fingers crossed!!! This will be the longest wait ever!
  15. I took my TEAS test the other day and received a 71.3% composite and a 76.2% in reading. I'm surprised at how poorly I did on the reading portion as reading (and English) are usually my strongest subjects. It's unlikely I'll be getting into the program but I applied anyway. I guess there's always hope! If I don't get in, I plan on taking the last two classes I need to transfer to Lewis. Good luck everyone! I wish we didn't have to wait so long to hear about whether or not we got in!
