  1. I am really afraid of being in a different role, I was a health care professional before I started my training and I never would have thought that I would feel like this. I have had a few jobs in health care and if I may say been quite good at them. I could learn new skills easily and adapt to new ways of thinking but as a student my head is shot!!!!!!! I am feeling alot of presure, too try and keep up with other students and reading.
  2. I am a first year student, i am now in my second term. Although I had been nursing as an N\A for many years I had never worked on an MAU unit (medical assessment) and you can guess where my first 7 week placement was can't you !!!!!!!! I decided to sit down with my mentor first thing and let her know my experience, thoughts and worries. And I was pleased to find that she understood exactly what I was saying. She said that she had the same problem in her first year of training too :chuckle Remember that all mentors where students once and that most of them understand where we are coming from. Relax and enjoy your placement, you will find that you learn much more . I hope that it all goes well :)
  3. I can sort of understand your feelings. My brother died some years ago in neonatal after the decision was made to terminate the life support and from that day I always said that I would never work with babies or young children. I am currently a 1st year student on a maternity placement and I am having a great time. I know that I am only spending a few weeks on this placement and that you are thinking of making it a career but I feel that as long as you understand your own feelings and reasons for taking this path then there is nothing to stop you. There is always help and advice out there, have you thought about chatting with the lecturers at your local uni ? wish you all the best x
  4. Hi Lena, I am currently a 1st yr student doing a degree in mental health nursing and I love it. The work is sometimes hard and the pay as a student is not great but if it is what you want to do then go for it. The feeling you get from helping someone who really needs it is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You will feel PROUD to be part of the profession. x x x GO FOR IT GIRL !!!!!
