  1. Caring for Patients with SCI

Look past the equipment and find the person. Silence can be golden. Body language tells alot about you. Study Study Study....get a good text book about your new area....find a mentor you trust. Good luck!
  2. Is every RN out there burned out and unhappy??

I agree that not all the job is peachy, but finding your "nitch" is crucial. I don't know of 1 job that is pain free and perfect. Nursing does give you endless choices to grow, change, and find where you can be your best. I am proud to say my neice...

  4. Nursing is pathetic...

Ahhhh....the Small time Electrician gets $100.00/hr, pays $4,000 and up a year for insurance to run his business, has $50,000 dollars of equipment minimum, employees plus taxes if hired, crawls through hot attics and under houses, etc., and works 1/2...
  5. It's hard to live with a nurse because...

LOL! Good one! My daughter (14) calls me up in the ER and says "Dad is covered with blood. He had an ATV accident". I ask her..."Is he walking and talking." She says "Yes, but he is talking funny". I say, OK, take him to the set tub in the gara...
  6. Is it a full moon?

A 91 yr old pt. that has been suicidal HER WHOLE LIFE. Do you think??????? I assured the doctor that if she could possibly get out of bed, I don't think she'd have the energy to do much harm to herself, but we'll keep a close eye on her.
  7. Wound cleaning

Gee! Thanks for the replies. I have been validated. I keep telling them to use just NS, but it is falling on deaf ears. I'll have to look up some good supporting literature. Keep the replies coming!
  8. It's hard to live with a nurse because...

LOL I have actually woken up my husband from sleep because I thought his breathing was "scary"!!!!LOLOLOL
  9. Verbal Orders

I'm sorta late to this discussion, but don't most docs own a fax machine? Why can't they fax the written orders directly to the ER or better yet the floor admitting the patient? I have a hard time understanding some of the accents and this would r...
  10. Wound cleaning

Our ER docs insist on using a solution of H202/betadine/NS for the intial cleaning of wounds. Isn't this in the "dark ages". What do you use? Sheez
  11. laptop computer charting

Does anyone use a laptop to generate their PCRs? I love the ease of charting when I do it, but if the EMT-P generates the PCR, it is full of my penned in corrections. This looks messy, and we don't have time to re-do it in a timely manner. Also, I ...
  12. nurse:patient ration in the ED

Wow, sound like I am semi-retired where I work! We are very rural, and have 1 RN/MICN and 1 EMT. It doesn't change. If things get wild, I try homehealth, acute/tele (1 RN there), or my manager. I have been known to hi-jack a paramedic/EMT team whe...
  13. Signing in confidentially

We individually talk to each patient. This is true for both the rural ER I work now and the larger ER I worked in before. If you have a Triage Buddy, that helps. Make the screening short and sweet. I have an EMT that helps screen patients when I am...
  14. Rattlesnake Antivenin

The Antivenin for rattlesnake bites is so hard to mix. It drives me nuts. I have tried warming the diluent first and it doesn't seem to help much. The patient needs it now, not in 1/2 hour. Thanks! Sheez
  15. JCAHO requirements

Well, you wrote this in August, but I thought I'd write you! You can buy videos from the Powers That Be....the agencies that make up the rules. I saw some order forms just yesterday in our COBRA update info... COBRA's version of Hints from Heloise....
