  1. Why do you want your masters? Why is it important to you? I only used a paragraph for my philosophy, but I talked about the necessity of master prepared nurses in the changing healthcare scene. With the baby boomers and more people getting access to insurance benefits, now is the time for masters prepared nurses.
  2. I communicated to my advisor from the beginning of the process of the paperwork that I wanted to start in the fall, specifically August. I am sure if you ask your advisor she can make sure the you start in October. It took me @ 2 weeks to get a call from my advisor that I got accepted. Once you are accepted you get sent an "intent to enroll" form which stated your start date that you chose & once signed reserves your seat in the program. I am sure if you talk to your advisor he/she can answer your question about the flexibility of your start date.
  3. I have seen one started yet. If you start one, I would join the Facebook groups. I am sure others will too.
  4. I am doing mine on July 3rd.
  5. I believe it is cumulative. If you talk to the enrollment advisor he/she will be able to tell you for sure.
  6. I do this exact same thing. I will take a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon on my first night coming on. When I come home in the morning I take melatonin & Benadryl. I am usually able to sleep 6-8 hours to be ready for my second or third night. When it is my last shift of a run of a few, I will come home and sleep 2-3 hours then get up and get things done. This helps so I can go to bed at a normal time that night. On my off nights I occasionally have to take melatonin &/or Benadryl to help me sleep if I find myself lying awake for over an hour tossing & turning. Night shift is not ideal or healthy however it decreased my daycare bill when I have 4 little ones. This routine has worked for me for 3 years now.
  7. Maryville University has a distance FNP & AGNP program. It is somewhat a newer online program but a private & small university. The programs are patterned just like their on campus FNP & AGNP programs.
  8. I did decide on Maryville over University of Cincinnati. The pace and the greater than 700 clinical hours is what has sold me. Plus I asked my advisor through Cincinnati what the pass rate of the boards for their students has been. They said 90%. Considering the national average is 88% and Maryville's pass rate is @ 97%, I figured Maryville is a better fit for my goals.
  9. I has been told by my advisor that it is $728/ credit. Comes out to @ $35,000 for the whole program.
  10. I have also been accepted to Maryville's FNP program for the fall 2013. It took 2 weeks for my acceptance call to come. Has anyone talked to someone already in the program? I am nervous that the online program is so new.
  11. Also, I would love to hear from any current students on how time consuming the school work is. I work 32-40 hours a week, mostly on nights. My kids are all school aged and my husband is super supportive of my goals to graduate as a FNP. I know in undergraduate school they say for each credit you shoud plan on 3 hours of studying. Like a 4 credit class should consume at least 12 hours of your week to get a descent grade. Does one need to plan on more than 3 hours a credit for graduate classes? I have also been accepted to Maryville University's online FNP program and I understand that their semesters do not have more than 6 credits that a person takes. It takes longer to finish, however perhaps more managable. I believe that University of Cincinnati is ranked higher than Maryville University with their online FNP. I am just looking for any feedback. I am leaning towards U of C, however I want to be sure of my decision.
  12. I was accepted to University of Cincinnati's online FNP program to start Fall 2013. I am pretty excited. It took about 9 weeks to get my acceptance letter. I am thrilled to be moving forward with my dreams. Has anyone heard what the average pass rate is on the FNP boards from University of Cincinnati's online program?
  13. I have been accepted to MVU for the fall as well. I am excited, however I also got accepted to University of Cincinnati. Trying to make up my mind what will work out best for my family. Has anyone heard from current students in MVU's online FNP program? I am a little worried that there might be glitches since it has only been online for the last year. I would love some feedback.
