I totally agree. I felt like NCLEX questions were only 2-3 sentences long and to the point. For example, this wasn't on my NCLEX, but something similar..."Your patient had a radical neck dissection and is complaining of difficulty breathing. This incision appears swollen with purulent drainage. What action should the nurse take first?" This is a ridiculous example but this is to be expected.

No matter how many practice questions you do, nothing really compares to the real NCLEX. Kaplan and Hurst Q Review are no harder or easier than NCLEX questions. Yes, they are written in the same context and you can expect to critically think and use nursing judgement. On the Q review tests I was scoring about 90-95/125. I think 84/125 is the median score on Hurst Q Review. You just need to mentally prepare for what will be on the test so you will have no surprises. You always get the unknown on the NCLEX!

I had about 6 pharm questions. It wasn't too bad. NCLEX is a mind game and even if you don't know a drug or what the heck they're talking about, you can rule out ridiculous answers.

I took my NCLEX on May 30th and felt like I completely bombed it! My test shut off at 75 questions and I thought to myself there was no way I passed this exam with 75 questions. I did the pearson vue trick and got the "good pop up". I was still a mess and convinced I failed. I was literally in a depression for 48 hours. Today I just found out I passed! I'm a firm believer in the PVT. People who deny the trick are most likely in denial because they were led to the credit card page. The system automatically knows to not let your register for another exam if you passed. Also, why would Pearson Vue tell you about this trick. They don't talk about it because it's all about money. They want you to pay to see results. But I still didn't feel confident until I saw my results. For study advice, Hurst Review was awesome!! I got questions on the exam that were literally out of the core content of Hurst. If you think you're going to open all of your med/surg books and study every drug and disease process, you're making a horrible mistake and setting yourself up for failure. Do TONS of practice questions and get the basic core content down!! When you take the exam, focus on the question on the screen and stop worrying if you are in higher level questions. I did that and got horrible anxiety during the exam. Your only priority is to answer each question to the best of your ability by using your nursing judgement. I only got 7 SATA! When you walk out of that exam you will feel depressed and feel like you failed it horribly. But don't assume anything until you try the PVT and see your results. For study tips, focus on infection control and nursing priorities/triage! Good luck and BREATHE!
