CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!! I think the compass test, is the same as my community college's accuplacer test. Did you find it difficult? Did you find the pre-req classes difficult? Did you have time away from school before you finally went back? Basically i am going in this and expecting the worse, I know it'll be one of the hardest, 2-4 years of my life but you are right, you can do anything you set your mind and your heart into. My driving factors are definitely my children, and their future. I know they are more than enough reason for me not to fail, because I know I can't afford and neither to i have more time to lose. Thank you for reply and good luck in nursing school! :)

Thanks for the reply Kristen! Congratulations on finally getting accepted in the program! I'll definitely take your advice, I can't wait to meet with the counselor and see how everything will pan out. Thinking positive here! Wish you the best, and hopefully everything goes well in nursing school!

Thank you so much, GED was a long time coming, I know it was a small accomplishment but to me it's a one heck of a deal to have a do over in life. Also, Thank you for sharing a very inspiring story! And Congratulations on your graduation! that right there just proves that ANYTHING is possible with god's help and hard work. I don't know why I worry that if I walk into a class, that everyone will be 10x more smarter than I am because I assume most of them didn't miss out over 10+ years of schooling, hence why i said I'd hate to feel "dumb" in front of everyone. Next week, I will meet with the academic counselor and I will also be taking the accuplacer test. Did you have to apply for federal student aids? if so, was it hard to qualify? as in my case being a single mother, I have heard a lot of stories where they only paid 500-1000 out of pocket because of federal aids. I am praying and hoping that'll be the same in my case :)!

Hi Kristen! Are you doing your pre-reqs right now or have you finished them already? If so how long did it take you to get them done and get in the ADN program? I work full time third shift and I was wondering if this will also affect my school schedule. Any tips on keeping a full time job while taking pre-reqs? Also, do you find the pre-reqs classes difficult? Thank you and sorry for having so many questions.

Hi I suggest you apply for state benefits, food stamps or some financial help if you can. I know this isn't ideal but any help right now will be good until you are done with school. Oh I hear you on the daunting part when it comes to doubting if you could do this, but like all the other great women here in the same situations, they are doing it and some of them have done it! :) As far as advice on "stress-free" it won't be completely stress-free but you can decrease that, but taking on what you know you can take one day at a time. Spending quality time with your son doesn't necessarily means long periods of times, it's the actual quality time. Take breaks, give yourself at least half an hour to do what you like, whether it be watching a show, or taking a bath or anything you find relaxing for you. I do make meals in advance and I freeze them. It makes it easier. I also have my mom with me to help me watch the boys when I go to work at night. I am very blessed that's for sure! Good Luck to you, and We CAN do this!

The replies I have been getting are very inspiring, thank you all so much and thank you for sharing your journey with me as well! this is definitely a great site, I've always read posts on here and finally decided to sign up. My local community college told me to take an accuplacer test, any of had to take this? I am not sure if it's because I have a GED and not a high school diploma. I am almost illiterate when it comes to math and this is very embarrassing and terrifying for me as well. 10 Years since I dropped out of high school, not by choice but I had a lot of things I had to deal with and I just recently just got my GED. They told me to get my background test, and 7 panel drug test, and get my pre-reqs done. I NEED to work full time, so I am not sure how long it will take me to get those done, but I WILL. They also told me to fill out an application for financial aid, and I did but I haven't heard anything in regards to this yet. I agree "the hardest part is getting it started". Thank you so much, for the motivation, kind words and encouragement. This helps me more than you know. God bless you all and Good luck in all your endeavors as well!

Thank you all so much! Yes being a single mom is definitely one of my biggest reason why I want this so bad. Earring all of your stories and accomplishments after hard times definitely gave me more hope that with hard work it is possible. Good luck to all of you and again, thank you all for taking the time to reply! :)

Hi! Thank you for input! Their father is not involve in any way. We were victims of domestic violence and abuse for years and we are finally free, I'd like to do this for my kids. I do have a family member to watch my kids, but unfortunately she doesn't drive. I have a full time job 3rd shift, and I am terrified of going back to school and feeling dumb, but I want this so bad. As I have mentioned the waiting list at my community college for ADN program is up to 4 years and that alone is discouraging because of my age. But thank you so much for giving me hope that I can do it!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I will be taking an accuplacer testing at my local community college. I am very nervous as math is definitely not my favorite. how are the pre-req classes? are they really difficult for someone who has been out of school? Thanks again and good luck to you too! :)

Single mom, wanting to be a nurse
Hi Everyone. I finally finished my GED and I am a single mother of two kids, i am 30 and I have been out of school for 10 years. I want to become an RN, but I am doubting if I am too old or just been out of school for too long. do you guys think it's still possible for me to get this done, while working my full time job? I get no child support, and I want this so bad for my kids future. I also want to finally accomplish something for me. I've had a really rough 20s, and hoping my 30s would be much better :) Any tips, insights and advice would be appreciated! Thank you all!
