  1. Congrats!! Yes, I am taking some French writing courses now to help where I am struggling. So if all goes well and there happens to be an empty spot in August, I will be there! If not I will still start in August just not in the nursing program, and I will start taking some courses ( French, English, physical education) just to lighten my load for nursing in the winter. I will not give up! Again, congratulations to you!
  2. I asked a simple question and have very much appreciated all of the comments. Whether they be from American or Canadian nurses. I do not see why snide comments need to be made. I think most people come here for support and to have their questions answered. You answered my question with your thoughts, why not leave it at that? You have gone on and on with your negativity, and frankly any further comments you may have, I have no interest in reading.
  3. Just curious if you received news from College Valleyfield yet?
  4. Yes, I will be able to re-take the exam if they have any available spots in August. I am quite nervous about taking the program in French. I hope it will not be too difficult. I went to elementary school all in French, and consider myself pretty bilingual, but all of my high school and courses taken since then have been in English. My writing in French needs much improvement but I am working on it.
  5. RN is 3 years in Quebec.
  6. I believe we may have met at the college on Friday!
  7. By the way are you anglophone? And if you have studied in French before, how did you find it?
  8. I too am English but also applied for College Valleyfield for the fall semester since I was late applying. Unfortunately, I did not pass the French exam, so I am waiting to see if anyone accepted decides not to enrol in which case I may have one more shot! I think it is less competitive In french Cegep's only because there are less English Cegep's. I do not know much about the program in Valleyfield as far as it's reputation. Although I do know the reputation of the hospital they use, and from what I have heard and seen it's not quite up to par with the McGill teaching hospitals. Good luck to you!
  9. It is not the first time I have heard of males having a hard time getting into the program. With the shortage of nurses and your great marks, I cannot understand why. Hopefully you will have or will soon receive your acceptance letter! Which cegep did you apply at?
  10. Brave or crazy? Nice to know that many others went back to school later in life! It's encouraging :)
  11. Any French nurses who have any thoughts on taking the program in French?
  12. I'm not sure if there is a medical terminology class, will have to look into that! I think I may have to study twice as long and twice as hard then if I were to take it in English! I agree that we are never too old to follow our dreams, I just can't help but laugh when I think that I will be nearing 45 by the time I get my bachelor's.......maybe a master's by the time I retire !?!?
  13. Hey everyone, So I am just wondering if there are many others who decided to head back to school in their late 30's? I am a wife and a mom of 3 and nearing 40 and I finally fell like it is time to go back to school. I finally figured out what I wanna be when I grow up!!! Lol. I have some reservations and doubts though....in my ability to get back into studying, spending the next 4-5 years in school, my ability to be a good mom and be there for everyone and still get passing grades! I also have some anxieties about taking the nursing program in French even though I am English. I am bilingual, but still think it may be more then I can handle doing it in French. The problem being, if I wait to take the program in English I will have to wait until next fall.......and.....well I am no spring chicken and really want to start sooner rather than later! Any thoughts or advice?
  14. Just wondering if anyone in Montreal has taken the nursing program in French even though English is your mother tongue? I am pretty much bilingual but have not done any studying in French since elementary school. I am worried that it may be too difficult but it was my only option to get into nursing for this coming fall semester. All the English programs were full. I figure that since I live in Quebec it could only benefit me by doing my schooling in French.....if I can make it through it! It has been so long since I have written in French except to send notes to school for my kids when they are sick :). I am also a little worried about being nearly 38 years old and heading back to school! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
