  1. Hi I just found out I passed the NCLEX at the second time of trying. YAY! I am registered with Georgia Board of Nursing. I have a Masters degree in advanced nursing, but I think I need to go through CGFNS again as when I initially had my certificates evaluated I was part way through my masters, so only had my nursing degree evaluated. Included in my masters is the non-medical prescribing course. So I regularly prescribe as part of my current role which is Practice Educator for Critical Care Outreach. UK nurses will be aware what this is, but basically it is an Emergency Response Team for the deteriorating patients on the general wards. We perform thorough assessments and escalate treatment as necessary. This involves consultation with the lead clinician on the Critical Care Unit. Prior to this I worked as a nurse in the Critical Care Unit. I have heard that going with an agency is the best way forward. Can anyone recommend any agencies? I would like to work on the outskirts of Atlanta. I understand that rural areas are more in need of nurses than large cities and this suits me well. What would be a course of action for me to follow now? Is retrogression still happening over there? How long would this process normally take from now? Thanks for any input! Nikki
  2. Hi So I failed NCLEX here in London last monday. I thought it was gonna be a simple process of going back to pearson/ncsbn website and paying $200 and the extra $180 for doing it in London, but it isn't! Ga bon have told me I need to reapply with them for a retest. This includes going through all of the application process and fees as if I'd never done it before. So paying the application fee to them as well as going through the process of having my background check done again including fingerprints!! Is this normal?? Even worse is that Georgia don't use electronic fingerprinting, so in England I need to be able to get hold of some blue FBI fingerprint forms (FD-258), get someone able and authorised to take them for me and then send to them to cogent in the States! Has any other international nurse been through this process?? Or maybe have some ideas of how I can simplify the process and ensure I am able to resit again (hopefully in 45 days!!)
  3. Thanks for your replies! I had read Gemma's comments in a previous thread as I see you have actually done a lot of the stuff already like registering in a State etc. Gemma, if you can PM as it wouldn't let me pm you as I'm new with ANY important help and guidance I would be immensely grateful! We are looking at Texas as I have seen most international posts are from this state? Is this a good idea? My hubby is a teacher and Texas seem to be better at certifying international teachers too (plus the climate looks good). I am not sure if I would be considered a NP over in the US as I know they are far more specific about what makes someone an NP? What would be a course of action now then, on a step-by step basis? Thanks for any help again!!!
  4. Hi I am a Critical Care Outreach Practitioner in UK. This is a NP position here in the UK but I don't think it is in the US! I qualified in July 2000 which I think means that I have the full hours in the 4 required areas (mental/obs etc). I know the nursing diploma I took in 2000 apparently changed post 2000 and I hear that some people are short on hours when trying to do to US? Hopefully I fall into the category meaning I don't need extra hours? After the 3 year nursing diploma here in 2000 I started work in ICU ten years ago and have had 10 full years experience in this area. In that time I did my degree which is a BA with honors in nursing but with a Critical Care pathway that I followed. I gained this in 2005. I have since had promotion and now am a CC outreach practitioner which is the link between the wards and ICU. I have my Advanced Life Support amonst other things and am enrolled on my Masters to start in Sept. I am also doing a prescribing course soon. Basically, will I be in demand in the US? is retrogression still huge and I'd be looking at 7 years? I have applied to Peyton O'Grady but not heard back yet. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
