  1. Hi all, I only recently started working at my current place of employment, a rehab/skilled nursing facility, in late May 2014. I have been shuffled around between many different positions, mostly AM/PM Charge Nurse and Treatment Nurse. Management also wanted to train me as an MDS nurse, but my training kept getting put off because the MDS consultant had to help with triple checks at another facility, or had a family emergency, or one of the facilities had survey, etc. I have now agreed (for better or worse) to step into the Care Coordinator position at my facility. This will be the only position that I'll be working in -- no more Charge Nurse or Treatment Nurse. I'll be full time with benefits. I'll be in charge of care conferences, coordinating patient care, and getting patients ready for discharge. Apart from that, I'm not entirely clear what else is involved. This is all fairly new to me. I know that this position is going to be stressful, and I also know that my facility really has no options other than me. I am essentially a new grad, with this being my first nursing job, but I am an RN with a BSN (second degree bachelor's) and have been told that I am a very competent nurse who learns quickly. I also know that I (of course!!) still have a great deal of learning to do. HOWEVER, I don't want to make a rookie mistake and undervalue myself going into this. I have been told that I should have a number ready when I go in to sign the paperwork, but after some research online, I can't find hourly or salary numbers for positions similar to mine. Does anybody have any input? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  3. Congratulations on your interview FutureCruzanRN! I don't think they offer phone/skype interviews, but I could be wrong. If you're committed and really want the job, I would recommend traveling for it, especially if you have an interview that includes shadowing on your unit, because it's very exciting to experience where you might be working. By the way, I was invited for a shadow interview in the PICU a couple of weeks ago. The nurse I shadowed was really nice, and then most of my interview was my interviewer telling me a lot about the hospital. She actually didn't ask me too many questions, but it's always good to be prepared with answers to potential behavioral questions centered around Duke's 5 core values. My interviewer seemed mostly worried that I wouldn't be happy / wouldn't commit to setting down roots at Duke (I'm from California, and it's a 2 year commitment -- and of course they would always like you to stick around). I assured her that I wouldn't have flown out to the interview if I wasn't serious about working at Duke. I received a call next day from the nurse recruiter offering me the job.   5. Hi all -- I just was invited to interview for the PICU (SNIP) this morning -- I'll be there next Wednesday, September 18th! Eek. Does anybody have any idea what we are expected to do on the floor during our shadow experience? I've never had to shadow before and the thought is daunting. I graduated in November 2012, and though I have been volunteering at a clinic, it's for adults, and it's not inpatient so everything is quite different. Would love to hear if anybody has any advice. Thank you!

  7. Linds, I totally get you. It's really hard to know what they're looking for. I thought that I had a semi-good chance (as I think we all did), but apparently not. I have heard that Sharp favors SD-area nurses over nurses from other areas. reeki and rnicholson, where are you from?

  9. Anybody know how many spaces there are or how many they're interviewing? It's been so long that I'm wondering if they have already chosen and interviewed, but it was only a small amount of people and maybe those people haven't been involved in the forum? I think this whole process is messing with my mind. I've called other places before and they've given me an answer of, "oh you'll hear next week" yadda yadda but I have known that most of the interviews had been done, so basically they're holding all their cards close until they've absolutely finalized everything, and then finally, finally send out rejections. Hmm I don't think I'm making sense anymore...

  12. I applied on 6/30 and received the screening on 7/1. I don't know if they sent it to everyone or not, unfortunately. In the past, I've received similar screenings for other programs from other hospitals, which have only been sent out to a select number of people who applied, but this situation could be different. I'm wondering too!

  14. Well, they're at least sending out the rejection emails for Cohort 2; I'm bummed to say that I got mine this morning. So no news might be good news if you haven't heard. Good luck to everybody still in the running!

  16. hlachoffrn and tinatuna -- I'm really sorry to hear you guys didn't get any communication from C-S. I'm crossing my fingers you get some positive feedback! zombmurse -- My appointment is at 2:30 pm (same as you, Nursai!) As for questions, I think earlier in the thread there was mention of a question about a time when you broke the rules. I think also something about a question about a time when you went above and beyond a patient's expectations. But, don't hold me to it if I'm wrong! I might be remembering stuff incorrectly. Thank you states for giving us an idea of what tomorrow will probably be like -- it's nice to know what to expect. Best of luck to everybody!

I do not have any paid RN experience, but I have been volunteering at a clinic. states, thanks so much for the info about the 3rd interview. Puts my mind at ease a little bit! Thanks to everybody for sharing information -- and good luck! From what I understood from a previous post, there were about 60 people interviewed at the event this past Wednesday 5/15, and they're hiring for 25 spots. Did I interpret that correctly? Makes me wonder how many they are asking back for the final round. I'm hoping these road trips are worth it :)

  19. Did you notice that it says 2012 and not 2013 though? Oh well, that's probably just due to a lack of proofreading. It was addressed personally so I hope that's a good sign! Does anybody know how many are invited for this event?

  21. @stephiem -- I'm so sorry to hear that. It's always such a letdown when yet another rejection letter arrives. Keep on applying and prepping answers for interview questions. There's a reason we all made it through nursing school and passed the NCLEX -- you can do it!!

  23. Well good luck on the rest! I was disappointed to read (either on this thread or the others? I don't remember) that if we didn't go to school in Sac or the surrounding areas we have very little chance of getting selected. I'm from the Bay Area sooooooo I'm going to just take this one as a loss right now. Onward!

  25. Just had my phone screen. For future phone interviewees, they asked questions about what makes a good employee, conflict resolution, and decision making, in addition to the "why Cedars?" and "why you?". The woman said that they screened over 100 candidates (not sure how far over 100), but she didn't say how many people were getting invited to the open house. Hopefully there will be information about that in the email that it sounds like they're going to send out later today.
