Interservice Transfer Army to Navy
Hey everyone, long time lurker of these forums. Currently a 66S (Critical Care Nurse) in the Active Army. It's always been a dream of mine to be a part of the Navy Nurse Corps. I am eligible to get out of the Army December 2020. Does anyone have any experience or have heard of / know anyone that has done an interservice transfer? I am looking into the Navy Nurse Corps as its always been am ambition of mine… I haven’t talked to HRC or my chain of command as this is just a thought currently and would like insight. My fiancé as well as a few of my friends are Navy Nurses so I see how her day to day life is. No one I’ve talked to in person seems to know what the process is like. I’ve read up on the regs AR 614-120 NAVMILPERSMAN 1300-082 SECNAVIST 1000.7F DoD Instruction 1300.04 Seems straightforward but is it really? A lot of factors to consider. Not only the Army's willingness to let me go but the Navy wanting me as well.

Army Duty Stations?
Hi Pixie, thank you so much! I'll start off by answering your question about cadets chosen for active duty. Cadet Command has 145 active duty nursing slots for the next 3-4 years I believe. Last year it was 175, two years ago it was 210. In total, every year there's about 250ish nursing cadets who commission through ROTC. More about myself, I am basically going to be a fresh college graduate. Not married, 21 years old (22 by the time I finish BOLC). I've always wanted to go to the East Coast and experience something new (NYC is close enough, I love US History as well) and over the school year it has become more and more appealing. Two of my best friends in the Navy Nurse Corps got stationed there as well so we were planning on living together. I did my NSTP rotation at SAMMC but I learned quickly that the location and scenery isn't for me. I love the hospital though and all the staff that I got to work with don't get me wrong. The burn unit was an interesting experience and their ER seemed really nice compared to all the other ones I've got to see. I put it up higher because the hospital is a teaching hospital and there's a lot of room for opportunity and growth according to a lot of the nurses I've spoken with there. As for Madigan, well... I'm from the WA area but I'd rather be there if I don't get the East Coast simply because family and friends.

Army Duty Stations?
Hello everyone, I am trying to preference my duty stations out of the 10 I can choose from. Ultimately, the choice belongs to the Army and that I know I will go wherever they need me. Just a little background about myself, I am graduating in less than a week with my BSN as well as Commissioning through AROTC into the Nurse Corps. Here are my ten choices so far in order Walter Reed, Maryland Fort Belvoir, Virgnia Madigan, Washington San Antonio, Texas Tripler, Hawaii Landstuhl, Germany Fort Bragg, North Carolina Fort Gordon, Georgia Fort Bliss, Texas Fort Hood, Texas Has anyone been to each of these locations and share some insights if possible. And can anyone share their experiences with CNTP? Thank you!

College Freshman wanting to do NCP
Wow! Congrats on your selection elisabethm! That must be very exciting, I can only imagine haha. Also, thank you for the insight and suggestions! I will definitely consider looking at all my options and opportunities that arise. I have a couple of questions for you... 1. How difficult was it for you to make initial contact with your recruiter? 2. When did you start applying for NCP, and how long did take you to finish your application? 3. How competitive is NCP, in your opinion I would ask the local recruiter all the questions I have at this point, except the main problem is getting in contact with him. Two emails and no reply gets me really discouraged haha. I even called my local officer recruiter place and left my contact information for him to get back to me whenever he can. I'm just praying and hoping for the best. In the mean time, I've just been focusing hard in school and trying my best to get the best possible grades. I'm currently seeking leadership opportunities around campus and beyond campus to help with my resume in standing out! Thank you for the reply and for all the help, it was actually really quite motivating! I wish you the best in your Naval nursing career!

College Freshman wanting to do NCP
Hey everyone, throughout my Freshman year I have pondered on the decision to do NROTC or wait to apply for NCP. Right now, I am pretty set on applying for NCP rather than doing NROTC due to the chances of me being cut from their program because they will have no scholarships available meaning. Anyways, as stated in the title, I am a college freshman who is currently IN my nursing program, but I am wondering about how competitive NCP is? Currently I have a 3.2 GPA (plan to bring it up for sure by the end of my spring quarter, also my father passed away towards the end of winter quarter which made everything really rough). Back to the question, is a 3.2 gpa even competitive enough for NCP? I mean I really do plan to bring it up by the end of my spring quarter to hopefully a 3.4, which I am very determined to do. Anyways, I contacted an officer recruiter who directed me to a healthcare recruiter and told me to email him. Which I've done. He emailed me that he would send me more information later that day I emailed him which was 3 weeks ago, and since then he has not emailed me back. I emailed him asking about the information and still no email. Any suggestions on what my next steps should be? Thanks
