I don't think I've talked with you yet...although who knows! I'm really bad about introducing myself. I'll sit there and have a conversation w/ someone, go home and realize I never got their name or told them mine! I'll look out for you though next week :) I'm also brunette...really narrows it down, right? I try to sit toward the front of the class :)

I agree...I know it'll probably wear off sooner or later, but right now all I do in my free time is read and practice dosage calculations! I guess I'm a nerd, but I'm just really enjoying it :)

Nevermind, got it all straightened out in class on Tues. So....what does everyone think so far? I mean, I know it's only the beginning, but how does everyone feel about their classes?

wait, so can someone give me a list of the books we need for nights/weekends...cause I got an email about it, but i don't remember it saying anything about a medical terminology book...just health assessment and pharmacology.

That's just for this semester though, right?

So I just finished looking under learning modules on blackboard for health assess and pharmacology...starting to freak out now! I mean, what did we get ourselves into! Gonna try to get ahead before class starts, but seriously...I'm feeling a little less excited and a little more anxious about actually getting started :) Anyone else feeling this way?

Haha, I saw you! I tried to ask questions several times, but they never saw my hand...oh well. I guess everyone got the email yesterday about what books to buy, etc. Now my only question is, who do we turn everything in to again? I tried to turn in my receipt of payment for the malpractice insurance and ID card and the women told me to hold on to it and turn it in on the first day of class....that's not what I had in my notes from orientation, but whatever...I'm just gonna do whatever they say, no matter how many times it changes.

Didn't get to order scrubs last night...was so looking forward to wearing them this fall semester but I guess we won't need them til Spring Anyone else a little let down by orientation? I don't know what I was expecting...but that wasn't it. Although, I was a little inspired/moved by the chair of the department's speech on how satisfying it will be to earn our title as an RN...how they don't just hand out good grades, we have to EARN IT.

Alright nt/wknd shelby people, we've got orientation tomorrow! I'm so excited! If you see a slightly awkward, brown haired girl with a big ol smile on her face...that'd be me, haha :)

So I went and got my shots yesterday (5 total!) and today I feel terrible. I'm feverish and have stomach cramps. Can vaccines really do this to you? I guess when you get so many at once, huh? Oh yeah, AND I have a huge purple bruise on each arm from two of the shots....very attractive :)

Did you just take that form in with you and have the Dr. fill it out or what? I guess they've probably seen those forms before and know what to do....I'm just so paranoid that I'll have some guy fill it out wrong or incompletely that I've been telling myself to just wait until after orientation....

I think they go over everything about insurance and whatnot at orientation. Also, they'll give us the dates we need to have it all completed. The only thing we absolutely must have done by orientation is the background check...and let me tell you, if you've moved around a lot in the past 10 years, plan on getting all those addresses BEFORE you start.

muzikluva - I don't understand how your friend could have not specified which program she was applying to....am I misunderstanding this? She really just didn't mark down her preference and then she still got a call before any of us who did. Something's not right here....Sorry, I'm probably just being jealous, haha.

Is anyone else on here a mom? You know how that last 4 weeks the Dr. is all "it could happen any day now" and so you're like, yes! any day! But then 4 weeks later, nada. And everyone's telling you, just enjoy your freedom while you can.... Anyway, I'm really trying to "enjoy" it, but the anticipation is really starting to kill!

Dhies! Not cool! For a millisecond, I thought you had some actual news! But that millisecond was long enough to get my hopes up, haha.

I don't think there is anything to be embarrassed about if you don't get in. This is a VERY competetive program and I know several people who didn't make it the first time around. But I think it's for a good reason, they want you to be successful in the program, ya know? If you get in and aren't truly prepared you are gonna struggle the whole way through. Anyway, yes it's dissappointing, but no I don't think anyone should be embarrassed! Bamagirl - I can't speak for the vaccines, but I know that for the night and weekend program you don't have to get your CPR certification until the second semester. Also, I do know that at orientation they give you a list of things you need to have completed before a certain date, but that date is not the first day of class...they know it takes time and they allow you enough to get it done :)

Does anyone know if we have to take a computer class to put towards our degree? My husband had to take it and the councelor told him it was required for every major, but I don't see it anywhere on the nursing degree requirements. I don't want to get to the end and then find out I'm missing ONE class!

Well here's a bit of advice for anyone who thought, "what the heck, I'll just go ahead and get my CPR out of the way now...since it's good for two years and all". Don't. I spoke w/ the head of the night/weekend program a couple days ago because I was on campus and just thought I'd ask a couple questions while I was there. I guess what happens is, if you get it now, you eat up a couple months and then you end up having to take it again before the program is even over. In the night/weekend program, they don't even require you to have it until the second semester! Man I feel stupid!

Well I tried to look up on Jeff State's website the information about how long the science classes are good, because I thought surely somewhere on the application or curriculum requirements it would say something about it...but when I click on the link it says the server is down. I agree, sometimes it really seems like things don't run very smoothly over there. But, in my experience, it's been that way at just about every community college I've been to....I guess they do the best they can?

It's June people! That means we could potentially hear sometime this month!!! (I hope I hope)

I got a 84% which was 126 points....I took it twice though. I'm taking Micro this summer and someone in my class said she saw a girl turn in an application for this fall that got a 94%!!! Now that's crazy....

bamagirl, I think maybe it's just the volume of applications, plus they still have to check everyone's GPA and then the fact that they are short staffed...IDK. I'm with you though, I worry that if I'm accepted and don't find out until late July, that puts on a lot of pressure to get everything in on time as far as CPR certification and vaccines. I also applied to N/Wk so maybe we'll be in the same class! RocknRoll, I think you should be fine...from reading posts from prior semesters it's seem like if you have over 200 you're in. But I'm gonna keep my fingers and toes crossed just in case!

I hope it's not by letter...I read on other boards where they got a phone call, I guess I was kinda imagining that :)
