Hi all, I have been working in PICU for the last three years after graduating nursing school. I am moving to a new city and there is an opening at a children's hospital for perianesthesia. We recover patients in PICU often, so I was considering this position because I thought I may be qualified. Am I right or wrong in my understandng of perianesthesia; I've always thought that it was the same as PACU? Can you tell me what it's like? What do you think the main differences are? What are the best aspects, and what are the worst? Thanks for the help!

I am from the area, born and raised. Did clinicals at both hospitals. There were good and bad things I found at both places. I don't think you'd hate either one, but it probably depends on the area. I would like to warn you about the area though. There is not much to do in Amarillo, and the closest "big city" would be OKC 4hrs away or Dallas at roughly 6. Also the WEATHER, whoa! It's triples in the summer and negatives and snow in the winter, but ALWAYS windy and dry. DRY DRY DRY! I have people ask me all the time about the area where I am from(I'm a traveler now), and they are shocked when I tell them. They just assume Texas is Texas and so Amarillo is probably like Dallas, or Austin. Amarillo will be nice for you, the people are wonderful and the town is big enough to relax and have everything you need. Lots of small towns around the area, so Amarillo is the hub for the entire panhandle. So you'll get a good variety of patients.

I suggest you switch to pediatrics and work at Texas Children's in the CVICU. It is #3 in the nation for cardiac services, congenital heart surgeries are way cooler than the adult ones. They do different vads and ecmo, which all can be pretty exciting.

I definitely did NOT report speeding tickets to the BON when I applied. I had only had 1, maybe 2, but was never informed I needed to notify them. Got my license, no problem.
