@reginaphalange9, I obviously can't speak for everyone on this board, but I believe there is a very wide range of healthcare experience levels across all applicants. I for one did not have very much experience prior to applying - I did some volunteering at the UW Medical Center and had some shadowing opportunities with nurses from the Nurse Family Partnership and Indian Health Services. I focused mainly on these shadowing experiences in my essay, how they influenced what kind of nurse I want to become, and how OHSU would help me to achieve that goal. However, I also used quite a bit of space to discuss my experiences as a student-athlete at UW, the life skills that I developed in that time, and how I will pull from those experiences in my nursing career. People apply to this program from all walks of life, and while those who have more healthcare experience will obviously benefit greatly (I am still trying to do as much as I can before school starts!), when it comes down to it we are all going to nursing school because none of us are nurses yet!
